I used to listen to Coldplay a lot. I mean a lot. This is my last.fm, which I only used in '11 and '12: Because I started listening in 2008 the actual play number must be some multiples of that. I know it is not the best band ever (that's the one next to it) and Coldplay sucks and yadda yadda, but the band means a lot to me because it got me through some shitty times in high school. So speaking as a veteran...the new album's not bad. Some highlights for me are Army of One (very neat echo effect), Everglow and the bridge in Amazing Day (classic Coldplay). I like the opening and album title track but I feel like I totally heard that beat before somewhere. Adventure of a Lifetime is still a fun track even though the opening riff sounds like a ringtone. Others are endeavors in different kinds of disappointment. I deleted Hymn for the Weekend pretty much instantly and the one-minute bridge songs are pretty much useless. Up & Up is so happy-go-lucky it annoys me - I think it reminds me too much of christian rock. In total: 7/10 - could be worse. Also this week, a new EP from Chet Faker: and I found this great track, Gone Are The Days by Honne:
this 3LP just arrived in my mailbox this week, almost in time for my birthday, and what a present indeed... http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/21283-live-and-unreleased-1997-2000/ KILLER NY band. incredible drummist from the Dazzling Killmen, and 2 cats who went on to another favorite band of mine, The Psychic Paramount... avoid if you're not into instrumental avant garde music... start w/ the 2cd discography if you're into it... some samples: and some psychic paramount... so menacing: play loud... enjoy...
Phish ringing in the year 2011 with a pretty good cover of J J Cale's "After Midnight" :
I just watched about an hour of this group and I do not know why. Three Russian girls; a ukuleleist (?), a singer and a trombonist/beat boxer.
I do! That is why I spent an hour listening to that music. I have pretty weird tastes in music. Lots of Klezmer, heavy metal, punk, hip hop, etc.....
Halls of Valhalla by Judas Priest Never heard this one before it came up in Rock Band 4, but thoroughly enjoyed playing it despite having to cut it down to Hard difficulty. Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden Number of the Beast was one of the first metal songs I ever heard, and is still one of my favorites to this day. On a less metal note: Milwaukee by The Both Like Judas Priest, this one came up on a RB4 show and I quickly fell in love with it, largely due to the fun guitar part, but it's still a really good song on its own. Finally, if anyone didn't hear, Foo Fighters released a free EP about 2 weeks back, Saint Cecilia (Autoplay Warning). I haven't listened to it a ton, but when I did I rather liked it compared to Sonic Highways, which I really couldn't get into like I started to with St. Cecilia.
I bought the first Iron Maiden album the day it came out and it still my favorite. And thanks for the reminder. I forgot to download that album.
I put this album back in my car's cd player last week. I'd forgotten how much I love it - it goes so many places, sonically.
I heard this song this morning and now it's stuck in my head. For an earworm, it could be a lot worse; bonus, the video has a narwhal in it.
