Hey guys,
I'm doing my Xmas shopping ASAP because I literally haven't started.
Do you have any suggestions for awesome gifts? Did you get someone something awesome this year?
If you are in the same boat as me here are some past gifts that I think are pretty awesome:
- Last year someone on Hubski gave me http://www.belowtheboat.com/ and the Catalina map made the BEST gift for my notoriously hard-to-shop-for parents.
- The book What If is an awesome gift for anyone slightly curious with life. I had to steal it back from the giftee for a bit because I wanted to read them all.
Anyways....HELP!
If anyone is last minute searching heres some ideas for you, based on my amazon order history from the last two days and last year. https://canopy.co/ is awesome for finding gifts (or at least ideas) too. Most, if not all of the following are available for 2 or 1 day free shipping with amazon prime: For the men: Travel bag Pocket knife The sickest watch ever that is actually within your budget For the El Nino prone: Umbrella! One a day calendars: Puzzles or Suduku Books: Now I know Elon Musk Images your should not masturbate to The Curious Bartender - great with a cool bar set or at least a shaker too?! Zen and Art of Motorcycle Maintenance For the super practical: Pens More Pens - lil gave these to me and I LOVE THEM! Travel locks For those who still rent their modem (we use both of these in my apt with time warner and have never had to reset it or had any issues): modem router Misc: Jumbo Ice Cube Trays Anyone with a wireless mouse or keyboard For spoiled kids: Marble Run I had this exact set when I was a kid and it's still completely intact after years of masterpieces and integrations with hotwheels. Its more expensive than the numerous others, but nostalgia and unbreakable. Hope this helps someone!
Came across this quote from Emerson today. Not sure it helps you at all, but it seems fitting nonetheless. The only gift is a portion of thyself. Thou must bleed for me. Therefore the poet brings his poem; the shepherd, his lamb; the farmer, corn; the miner, a gem; the sailor, coral and shells; the painter, his picture; the girl, a handkerchief of her own sewing.
I also haven't started. The only people I find it difficult to shop for are my mother and sister. Most of the other people who I buy presents for have hobbies or at least like decent booze. I prefer to give consumables when possible, probably because I like to receive them so much. Just ten minutes ago I was given a gift of sweets from an Indian graduate student's home town. Can't wait to break it open. Nothing makes me happier than getting some unique food or a decent bottle of scotch or champagne. I tend to give gift of that sort. A friend of mine was hosting a Christmas party the other day, and we made a gingerbread house of her house as a gift. It was a huge hit, and was a ton of fun to put some effort into, as I'd never done anything of the sort before.
Do what my folks do: buy someone a Goat goats are dope.
OMG I WAS JUST TELLING randomuser THAT I WANT A BABY GOAT AFTER GETTING LOST IN A WORMHOLE OF ADORABLE BABY GOAT VIDEOS
I talked about having a beard care side venture on Pubski before and it's been going great for the holidays! Apparently bearded men's girlfriends are really into our combs. So much so that we sold out way faster than expected and our chinese suppliers are out of stock :( We got some beard oil left tho so if any of you hubskiers want some, PM me and I'll sent you the stuff as cost!

I like giving earbuds. Just a $10 or $20 pair. I find a lot of people lost their headphones frequently, don't have any, or will be getting an upgrade when you give them the headphones. Hell, I have a couple pairs of expensive headphones and I'd still love to get a cheap pair. Perfect for running, the bus, or even as a backup.
I always give books or music. I feel bad giving gifts I could give to anyone, but I'm not especially thoughtful. I know the kinds of things the people I know well enough to give gifts to like to read/listen to, though, and can usually find something in the right neighborhood they won't have encountered and so won't already have.
