I used to take the train from White Fish Montana to Ann Arbor Michigan. One time on the trip I met a mexican muralist that had been commissioned to paint a buildings wall in the US. He was done with the mural and was traveling around. I had a fifth of whiskey with me and we drank it together and played cards. It was a fun time, he was hilarious and had a bunch of great stories about traveling around the world painting. As a thank you for the whiskey, he drew a portrait of me. It was a great remembrance of the trip, way better than any photo.... and I somehow misplaced it. I cannot find it anywhere. Such a bummer.
On a warm summers evening, on a train bound for Ann Arbor,
I met up with the muralist; we were both too tired to sleep.
So we took turns a staring, out the window at the darkness,
til boredom overtook us, and he began to speak.
He said, son, I've made a life, out of painting people's faces... Dang, it gets tough there. And I almost got to the part about whiskey. That is a wonderful thing about travel. You connect with people so much more readily.

Thanks for that mk, I've held some disdain for that tune for a long while now but you've erased that with one fell swoop.
I agree about how much easier it is to connect with people when traveling. I have some of my fondest memories from trips I took when I was younger. I find it's easier to have these chance encounters when I travel solo though. Have you found any truth in that?
