I'm sorry to hear about the hip, that's a true bummer. As for the iPod, while I definitely listen to music when I run and use the "gps" for distance measurement, I find I like running more without having to carry the iPod. It just feels better.

What does "trying out Starting Strength" mean?

Good luck with the 5k, it doesn't matter the distance, it's just fun to be amongst a fellowship of runners and to push yourself. Also, good luck with your summer research.

Music makes it so much easier to get runner's high though, and I can easily run twice as long when that happens. And Starting Strength is a workout book/routine designed around doing composite weightlifting, taking it slowly/trying to learn because it's something I've never really paid much attention to/tried before.

And thanks, dunno if publishing will happen, but I enjoy the work very much, and that's all that matters to me for now!

yeah, weight lifting is a hard one for me. I've really only done it for one period of my life. I'll admit, it's when I was in the best shape of my life but still, it was difficult for me to maintain.

I did a video program called p90x and it was pretty intense. -Too intense to be sustainable as a long term lifestyle. That's why I quit. I really should get back in to it from a more realistic standpoint. It's really, really good for you.

I've recently begun listening to more pastoral music while running and I actually prefer it. The runners high comes with or without the music.

As for the publishing -sounds like you have the right approach. It really is all about enjoying the process. When you do that, good things tend to happen.
