Imagine may be idealistic or "childish", but then if the world were as seen through a child's eyes, would we be worse off? The title of the song is "Imagine", which in and of itself invites the listener to suspend reality and be fanciful in their thought of what could be. I wouldn't dare change a single lyric in that song, imo it's damn near perfect.
As for "Let it Be", you're right it's a "hymn" and a damn good one too. You hit on my favorite lyric and one that I think gets to the heart of some of the "movements" happening in society. The Broken Hearted people are starting to find their common voice. When this has happened throughout history, BIG things happen. -There's something in the air... no?
