It's pretty cool to see them just sort of awkwardly tuning, playing other riffs etc before starting the song. Rookie moves.

How long had Stone, Jeff and McCreedy been playing together? I know that Stone and Jeff were in Mother Love Bone together but when did McCreedy enter the picture?

It's pretty crazy how tight they sound considering how few rehearsals they had. Vedder sounds like Vedder, that's pretty cool imo. He didn't "create" that voice, it just is. There certainly have been quite a few imitators since.

I like how you refer to it as "on the 6th and 7th day" as if it's biblical creation. -Awesome, I'd expect nothing less from an original TEN club member.

As someone that likes PJ but hasn't followed any of their work since Yield, what have I missed out on?

Links please.

Well, it was biblical for some....HA! But pretty intense indeed...Well in PJ20 they hash on it a tad, but of course there is more to the story then the doc tells...Jeff after Andy (singer of MLB) died, pretty much put down his bass....Stone says he never quit playing or writing, what he was writing was indeed the pearl jam TEN Demos. McCready and Stone attended high school together and apparently would trade "rock photos" to one another. So, Stone is at a party and McCready is there playing Stevie Ray Vaughn song in the corner, Stone asked him to jam and they set up shop in Stone's parents attic.....Stone really did not want Jeff to jam with them, actually Said Fuck Jeff Ament, and (in PJ20) mike said no thats your guy. You gotta have Jeff....the demo was cut with Matt Cameron (soundgarden, PJ) on drums, this came to Vedder via Jack Irons, now he met Jack because he volunteered to roadie at a show for Joe Strummer....Jack was there, also lived near Vedder in San Diego...they played hoops from time to time....wow i am typing a lot more than i thought....the obsessed, we never shut up. Jack was in Chili Peppers and gave the demo to Vedder. Rewind, Dont forget Jeff and Stone were in Green River in 1984 with Mark Arm and Steve Turner from Mudhoney, this all before Love Bone. OK...done with the past. After Yield of course their have been some Jems, obviously I am bias but I truly believe fan or not every record has a few cuts that cant be ignored. Their last album "Backspacer" (thats what the key was called on old typewriters...yes it had an "R") is a beauty....at least the first 7 songs, I doubt you would skip one...It's fast, raw, and has a sound of way too many guitars that somehow works.....I will post a few. But back to after Yield, 6th release was Binaural, Riot Act, Pearl Jam, then Backspacer....I would say out of these Riot Act is the fan album, it's a tough listen at times and still to this day probably my last pick...but still two songs from that album are "I am Mine" and "Thumbing my Way" Both Vedder written, no surprises or inventive technique....just kinda picture the tape player rolling as those tunes were worked out....here they are.

I had so much work I needed to get done this afternoon but I decided to say "fuck it" and watch PJ 20 instead. Glad I did. I had forgotten so much about why I used to love that band. Great songs and great guys. I loved so many moments. Neil Young back stage cracking up at Eddie threatening the ticket master table with a food fight. Stone and his Grammy. Funny stuff. I didn't know much about Mother Love Bone, so seeing the Andy footage was cool. Guy seemed like the antithesis of Eddie, but it's cool how much Ed seems to respect him.

I've always thought Chris Cornell was a bad ass singer and it's cool to see that he's a cool human too.

Great stuff man.

Aside: I would have liked to meet Joe Strummer, I'm jealous.

Why didn't Stone want Jeff to play with them? I need to see PJ20

Don't know exactly, again it is simply a sentence in PJ20, but they basically just took a break. Understandably i guess, due to old singer dying. But i think Jeff was deflated with music, and Stone wasn't. He was still writing and maybe Jeff had no interest??? Dunno. But yes you do need to see it, although i find myself watching it with certain people and the pause button comes into play because a sentence really needs to be a paragraph explanation....also there is a bad ass PJ20 hardcover book that really should accompany the movie....crazy thorough, exact dates, and a lot of direct quotes from movie are in there along with further explanation....hence the paragraph needed....that cutting room floor that Mr. Crowe had to deal with must have been overwhelming....again solid doc PJ20 is, BUT as a huge fan there are too many holes....the book fills a lot of this in but still....once again never satisfied is Kevin. Rambling again I am, but hell if you're gonna do the movie...cover it all.

| hell if you're gonna do the movie...cover it all.| I agree with that, for sure. It's not like a lot of people that aren't fans are gonna go see it anyway. Might as well delve deep.
