Going to Ghent this Friday morning, returning Saturday. Flying out to Lisbon on Monday, back Wednesday eve. Whoo! Dentist appointment on Thursday morning. Less whoo. Tomorrow morning I'm doing the lasercutting workshop that I have been wanting to do for the last few weeks. I have a cool idea for cutting something Hubski-themed out, if it works out I'll let y'all know tomorrow. edit: oh, I forgot! Finished another transit map. Current Dutch train network in the style of the 70s map:
All right a while back I made a topic about my job status and it was suggested to me that I ask my boss to see what higher up positions were available in the company. So on Friday, I finally got the time and courage to ask if there were any possible opportunities of advancement. What I was told was that there wasn't anything at the moment but in the coming months as the company grows, there could be new positions opening up and that I would be on the top of the list for consideration. My boss couldn't really give a definite answer on this. There was no guarantee. He also told me if I was thinking about doing something different from what I'm currently doing, I should suggest it and maybe we'll see if there is a fit somewhere. Well at least I asked. Now I have to determine whether or not I should look for a new job? By the way, this is the original thread
Sounds like a very positive discussion! Your boss told you that you are valued ("...I would be on the top of the list..."), and that he wants to keep you in the company, and that he is open to suggestions and helping you find the job you want. Winning.
Yes, he also did mention that whether or not I noticed, the company does appreciate my work.
My friend I eat lunch with from time to time so we can complain about our jobs? She just got a new job. I'm so happy for her. Regular hours, almost 50% more pay than she's currently making. Hopefully healthcare benefits. She's probably on cloud 9 right now. PlaceboEffect and I hung out for the first time this past weekend since before the election. He's doing good and I've missed him like hell. I'm hoping we can get together for movie nights on a regular basis again. One of my coworkers has a relative who has traveled the world to teach sustainable farming to various types of communities. I'm trying to get said coworker to introduce me because I'd very much like to have a convo or two with the guy. Been talking to an asston of people about charities and volunteer work lately. It's a shame the subject doesn't come up more often, but it's amazing to see the dialog starting to pop up in response to our rocky political climate right now. Trying to resist the urge to buy a sixth bookshelf as it'll just lead to a desire to fill it.
Bicycling I'm giving Strava a shot again, anyone else use it here? Nobody I know offsite does, but if ya'll want to see uninteresting maps of my rides to the library and back, you totally could. My parents gave me an Osprey Radial backpack for late-january-christmas. It's pretty rad. It doesn't have ports to run a hydration hose through, but I'm not sure I'll need one anymore. Now I'll have regular access to public water fountains for refilling bottles. I'm also moving over to a new pannier setup, thanks to my sister. Haven't had the occasion to load them up yet, but it'll be nice having bags that are quick to remove from the bike. Juggling Progress is slow, yet hope is not abandoned. Clothing I'm strongly considering saying fuck it, fuck pants, I'm done with cotton, if I'm not on the clock I'm not wearing 'em. So now I'm knee deep in tabs of hiking pants who's stretch properties apparently enter noneuclidean space and oh I found some fancy "commuting" cyclist apparel that is apparently made with woven magic and that go for $150 a pop. And so, I'm slowly narrowing in on a question: what's the closest thing I can find to tights that are socially acceptable to wear outside of the house? Cycling bibs come close. Something slightly less skin tight and sans chamois.
Took a break from my busy and hectic lifestyle, walked freely, looked around, shopped, looking forward to watch some movies, feeling so relaxed this weekend.. PS: Can anyone recommend a really good and MEANINGFUL movie? Something natural to lighten up my mood, I don't want to see romance, no sci-fi, just something natural..and beautiful.
