Thought I'd say hello to all by posting my favorite set of buddhist lectures. While introductory, and fundamental, it's a clear look into Theravada Buddhist thought. I really enjoy listening to Bhikkhu Bodhi, although caution, some of these audio files are a bit distorted. It's nothing I couldn't get over.
From the site: "The lectures explain the Dhamma from the perspective of Theravada Buddhism, the oldest continuous Buddhist school, whose scriptures, the Pali canon, give the most accurate picture of what the historical Buddha himself actually taught. The lectures are intended to be basic enough to be of value to beginners without previous study of the Dhamma, and deep and through enough to be of interest to long-term students seeking to extend and clarify their understanding."
Can you download these or only stream them? My wife and I have been talking about taking a course/class on Buddhism for years now. We just never seem to have the time. This could be the perfect resource for us. I drive a lot for my job, I drove 7 hours today for one appointment. Crazy. Anyways, my point is I have a lot of time to "listen" to things like this while I drive. Normally I utilize audio books and some podcasts, just started listening to Freakenomics as suggested to me by fr33lunch. I'm definitely going to check this out 2814, thanks. oh, and welcome.
Thanks, hubski is a good little place, so far! You can download these by right clicking the links and saving. They are all .mp3. Before these lectures, I had read through a couple of primary texts that friends introduced me to, but found myself in a similar boat as you. I've worn these out on long commutes and headphone office days. Hope you enjoy them!
Thanks, I've got a good 3 hours of commute tomorrow. Let the Buddhism-ing begin! -did I just write buddhism-ing? Cheers!
