I kind of just want a body count of anyone here on Hubski watching it, would anyone be down for a weekly Rick and Morty digestion club?
EDIT: I'll start it up next week with a spoiler tag. Please scroll down cautiously, spoilers may lie below.
I'm super down to talk R&M. I've been watching religiously for the last few years. Watched all of them multiple times, even the new one that was on last night. So far, I love all of them. This review of the pickle rick episode was extremely good and I felt like they 'got' everything in the episode that a lot of other people missed.
SPOILERS FOR PICKLE RICK EPISODE BELOW That was a good review, in that it confirmed my own impressions O:-). But seriously, the bit at the end about Beth increasing her own crazy has some interesting implications. I mean, it's always been obvious that the family is well and truly fucked, but this is the first real hint that they might be playing it out a little straighter than we were led to believe. It's interesting to think about this in light of last night's episode, but it's hard to say yet whether that one was part of an overarching narrative.
Same! I was originally going to post this review on Pickle Rick (it does miss that it is a turning point for Beth) to Hubski, but I think a discussion thread is probably better.
I am. I agree with francopoli that they haven't topped season 2 yet (for me the Unity episode is probably one of the best episodes of anything ever). That said, I do think it was a good idea not trying to out-weird themselves -- it would get old real fast for it just to be another monster of the week. Instead, "spoiler," the monster is US (this'll make sense if you're caught up). Episode 2 was kinda meh, but I'm finding them getting better. I enjoyed 3 (Pickle Rick wasn't the point, and their hyping him up was part of the joke I think), especially after seeing Dan Harmon's recent talk at Google. Last night's was probably my favorite so far.
I was pretty meh on that episode until the last two minutes when I said "holy shit."for me the Unity episode is probably one of the best episodes of anything ever
The Unity episode had the effect of redefining the way I thought of a recent breakup- I went continuously pining to- the relationship wasn't healthy for either of us. Also, Rick and Morty is a show where personalities revealed in a myriad of bits and pieces, and it was way too easy to put my ex in Unity's shoes and me in Rick's.
It feels like the show is sniffing it's own fantheory recently, but also wants to distance itself at the same time, from the same said fantheory.
Can't tell if it's the expectation of it being great ruining my enjoyment or not. For some reason S3E2's only redeeming feature to me was the Robot Morty. Either way, I think the social commentary is always a tickle. The deeper dive into relationships and characters is new and interesting. Loved the Pickle Rick episode. Aside from that, again, the side gimmicks are what get me going. The therapy session was brilliant. This channel's got some funny tunes out of each episode.
