I plan on picking it up this weekend. I've gone to my library and it has been checked out. It must have been an enjoyable read if you finished it in one day. It's a series, do you plan on continuing?

It wasn't the greatest story that I've read; the plot itself is rather simple, but the narrator is a likeable character and is really what redeemed a book that I think would be otherwise only mildly interesting.

I will most likely not be continuing the series unless we do it as part of the book club. Still have a lot of Philip K. Dick to read.

So I shouldn't be discouraged from reading it but also, I should not be overly excited... Sound about right?

Yeah. Its not along the lines of Enders Game or Do Android's Dream of Electric Sheep and other stories that have a lot more plot to offer, but its a plot that is functional, and the story is more about the characters.

It reminds me a lot of the EU book "I, Jedi" which is underappreciated. Again with that, the story is simple but the characters are strong and it is ultimately worth the read.

So yes, in many words, exactly what you said.

If done properly, I'll bet it would make a fun movie.

I finished it yesterday, and started in on the second one (SSR's revenge).

(Very minor spoiler): Did anyone else notice the anachronism of applying X-rays to erase the film in the doctor's camera? I guess that digital photography thing is just a fad, and film cameras will be making a comeback ;-)

Great, now I can't read it. Thanks a lot BDM.

I blame mk, for not implementing that cool spoiler blackout thingy that they have in reddit ;-)

mk  ·  4484 days ago  ·  link  ·

Your wish has been granted. Just surround the text with two tildes.

briandmyers  ·  4483 days ago  ·  link  ·

You da man!

thenewgreen  ·  4483 days ago  ·  link  ·

Just want to test this out

P.S. You start making beer yet?

briandmyers  ·  4482 days ago  ·  link  ·

No beer yet - I'm picking up some malt & hops the weekend, though! Next week or the week after, I'll be making about 10 gallons of Pale Ale :-) This will be my first time to try native NZ malt.

exciting! Enjoy the process, let me know how it goes.

thenewgreen  ·  4490 days ago  ·  link  ·

I've seen that used and always thought it looked horrible. It is useful though?

briandmyers  ·  4490 days ago  ·  link  ·

Sure, it works - a black block hides "spoiler" text, until you mouse-over it (or maybe click it, I forget).

thenewgreen  ·  4490 days ago  ·  link  ·

Sounds cool. mk, what say thee? Perhaps we could do it in a new way?

mk  ·  4490 days ago  ·  link  ·

Yeah, I can add a spoiler text format. Maybe it will be automatically on for briandmyers. ;)

I'll add it to the short list. I'm doing some bug fixin' atm.
