it's funny to me that this is a problem because in concept "way more people are surviving to old age and are able to retire" sounds like a great thing it's a shame about the tan-staffle
The problem comes when you insist that your kids don't need the workplace protections and quality-of-life assurances that allowed your parents to have four kids on a single machinist's salary. Giving birth to one (1) upper-middle-class white kid cost us $70k in savings. Raising her is about $20k a year excluding food and shelter. That's 5 horses worth. I know rich people, but I don't know anyone with five horses. My dad's private plane cost less than that, and costs less than that to fly. When "having a kid" is around the same financial impact as "racing Porsches" there will be far fewer kids, and when you're dependent on those kids' taxes paying for your dotage you're gonna be fucked.
