THE FOREWORD
This one goes up largely as a formality, since we've had a few posts in the last thread and people seem pretty happy to use it! On that note, go check out elizabeth's adventures in embroidery and mk's sick new rain garden!
Throwing it up in case we get some cool updates on clocks or denim-jacket repair :)
THE AGENDA

I was tired of being quarantines yesterday so i did a little cleanup of our raspberry bushes. The garden looks a lot less like an ugly mess now! I had planted some type of lavander, late in the season last year, I hope they survived the winter. They barely grew from their original size, but I'm hoping it's because they were adapting to the soil. If would be cool to see them get big - i've been huge bushes of this variety in the Netherlands (but admitedly the climate is way different). The tulips I planted 2 years ago also made a mass appearance! I was super disappointed when nothing came out of it last year, but this year there is a ton! I think tulips are amongst my favorite flowers, reminds me of my childhood. That's our front yard - it gets a reasonable amount of sun. So i was really hoping to plant something edible. Maybe some salads? Radishes? But I seriously have absolutely no experience in any gardening, and researching on the internet seems tedious. Maybe I'll try to rope in some friends to help me. But I need to hurry, I think prime planting season is soon. I'll probably have to cut the vine, it's quite invasive and a pain to manage.
I embroidered a little beginner project! It's not much, but I'm satisfied with it for a first project. I did a sampler of different stitches, but I've lost that one in the last seven days somehow...Regardless, the leaf exists because I wanted to apply those skills and had NO IDEA what to make. I'm particularly happy with how I was able to mimic the 'vein' of a leaf using a clever lil stitch I found online: I'm using aida cloth right now (since it came with the kit) and feel a little dissatisfied with it - it's clearly built for cross-stitching, and the dull needle I got off of Amazon has trouble really puncturing any of the weave except the obvious pinpricks which are useful for cross-stitch. I think my next for-practice project will use some of the scrap fabric I have laying around as rags, and I'll move on to something simple like a bandana after that!
There's different kinds of muslins, in thicknesses and textures, so definitely get them in person so you can choose which ones you like. With the whole thing going on, sadly that might mean you'll have to wait. But if you go to big box stores and get it when it's on sale and with coupons? You can get it for a couple bucks a yard, which is a scream of a deal.
Nothing fancy. A 2.5 gallon stainless steel pot for the boil, a glass 5 gallon carboy for secondary fermentation, and a plastic 5 gallon bucket for primary fermentation. I don't even have a cooling coil. This time I just left it covered overnight before adding the yeast.
Mostly malt extract or a mash with mostly grain? I'm curious about the details if you use a lot of grains - everyone seems to have their own system mashing and separating. I have the right equipment to do brew-in-a-bag brewing and helped some friends brew beer, but so far I've stuck to 1 gallon fruit wines.
I can make stickers. It's not a fluke, I can consistently and efficiently turn out complete, kiss-cut sticker sheets. It took about 18 months. So now I'm realizing this and I'm cleaning up old material and using my new very baby digital art skills and churning out sticker sheets.
So, I worked some more on the jacket and even took pictures of what I was doing, but honestly the pictures and the work I'm doing right now is inane and not all that interesting, so there's no point in sharing them. Buuut, I'm actually learning a bit as I go. I called my mother for some advice on it, seeing what she thinkgs one way or another, and I forget most of the tiny, important details of the conversation. The important thing is, I can always take comfort in the fact that I have no attachment to the jacket, so if I mess up royally or it becomes too much, I can always throw it away. I'm turning it into a quilted, patched jacket. Did I say that already? No? Sorry. I wouldn't be surprised if the next time kingmudsy makes one of these threads, I bomb it with way too much stuff. Looks like, crazy germs and all, I'm gonna be a shut in for at least a couple of weeks. That means crafts, video games, and hanging out in the yard with my camera lamenting the fact that my neighborhood has a grand total of 12 bird species, 2 lizard species, and not much else of interest to put on iNaturalist. Who knows? Maybe I'll get lucky and something rare will fly by one morning. Gonna post a Rambling Kaiju review now, cause I definitely got time to work on those now. Stay healthy Hubski. Stay safe. Shit's still on fire, yo.
