I was invited to take my son to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers with another dad/son. I think I will go because the Strokes are the opener.
I saw that Strokes/Peppers combo a few weeks ago here in Det. I was good. I'm not really a fan of either band, but I had fun. The only stadium-sized acts I've seen in the last 20 years are Phish and whatever the current incarnation of the Dead are calling themselves at the time, so it was a different experience and way different crowd. But worth the price of admission, as far as concerts these days go (like $130 for ok-to-not-that-great seats). Now I'm struggling with whether to buy tickets for The Boss in March. Anything not behind the stage are going for a minimum of $225 or some crazy shit (like nosebleeds), so at that point if I'm going to commit, I guess I might as well buy the $300 decent seats. What's the difference? Anyway, go. You'll have a great time, and so will your son. Chad Smith is an insanely good drummer, so your kid will learn something.
Ticketmaster is a racket. Two normal tickets, nothing even close, we’re $490. Just nuts. Unfortunately I agreed to go before I knew the price tag. Better be fun. I agree that Chad Smith is a good drummer. I also like the rest of the RHCP with the exception of Keidis. Just don’t dig his lyrics/singing. But I do like the Strokes. “Is This It,” was a fun album. I really dug it when it came out and I think it stands up. More excited for the Strokes than I am the RHCP. I’m sure we will have a blast. Taking the kid out of school for the day and staying at a hotel. I would have loved this as a kid.
The best parts of the show were definitely the instrumental ones. Whether you care for the music or not, Flea, Frusciante, and Smith are great at their craft, so it's a joy to watch. Not that that makes it worth a small fortune to attend, but sine you're in it already, just enjoy. I never really connected with The Strokes. They seem like they're too cool to care. And I dislike the lack or any harmonies. It all sort of bores me.
