I've been enjoying a lot of the stuff Nick Cave has been putting out the last year or so. I really like the Grinderman albums. In the past two weeks I've listened to "Shivers" by Roland S. Howard with the Young Charlatans two dozen times. The Charlatans broke up and Roland joined Nicks band The Boys Next Door and recorded Shivers before they became the Birthday Party.
That is so good. Everything. Writing, technicality, performance, mixing, cameras, Nick is perfectly in tune when he needs to be, which is not always, it's so smackingly obviously being sung RIGHT there, so well, with custom imperfections. Embarrassed I'd never heard of these guys before. I also suspect that the live house mix in the audience wasn't great or those people would be thrashing, but you never know, groups of people are so weird.
the use of editing and lighting to mask the fact that no one can afford an accurately modeled pear mouth singing is brilliant
Just to clarify, are you telling me you've never heard of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds? That cannot be true. I've been worshipping at the alter of Nick Cave for 30 years.Embarrassed I'd never heard of these guys before.
