Unshared is pretty cool.
However, I mostly follow the most active users (and people I know personally), so my hub is basically identical to "Popular" most days. >50% cross-population of stories. I want a place where I can discover popular posts by people I'm NOT following.
Why can't "Discover" be a link in addition to a menu header? It could go to the most-shared posts that AREN'T in my hub. With the subtraction of followed tags, I feel bereft of content that's not just from the same four people.
I get what you're saying. Here's a thought, feel free to completely ignore it: I realize my strategy might not scale well with the interface at the moment, and as we all know if it doesn't scale, it doesn't matter. I just don't think the site is there yet, myself.I mostly follow the most active users (and people I know personally)
I notice that you're following 13 people. I, for example, am following 130 and I know a dude on here currently following 201. I follow a lot because I, personally, don't have any problem with unfollowing people either. I give'em, say, three strikes then their out. It's kind of like how I treat the people I meet in real life. If I hang out with someone and they continue to be a twatwaffle after a third meet - peace out.I want a place where I can discover popular posts by people I'm NOT following
The popular button does have people I'm not following in it. If your 'popular' feed and you user feed are the same, then maybe you're following all the right dudes so far, and maybe Hubski is still too small compared to what you might be used to.
That's called Reddit! Rather than basing anything on popularity, wouldn't it be much cooler to have a button called "Random Unfollowed" which just grabbed any post by any user you're not following and brought you to its comment page? That'd be a great way to discover guaranteed new stuff without having to worry if the "Most Popular" page is going to become the Front Page of Hubski. Maybe you could set a # of followers range in controls for your "Random Unfollowed" button, so you'd only get posts by people who you don't follow but someone does.
If you go to your controls page you can set the option 'external posts' to some or many to get some posts in your feed from people you don't follow. Those posts will turn up pale blue in your feed so you can visually identify them as well.
This is somewhat related to a suggestion I posted in the tag death thread, but I'd like a way to say, "Hey, hubski! I want a new person to follow that submits/comments/shares things with #tag!" And then hubski would do its magic and give you a suggested person to follow.
You could always change your external posts to some or many in your controls. This will put posts from people you don't follow in your feed.
