When is the right time to have a debate? Could a reasonable debate even be had after situations like this?
If the answer is no, then the public blames the government for not doing anything and for letting this happen. If yes, how can Congress work out a bill that both sides find appealing (within reason) that actually enhances security?
But if they do nothing, everyone just seems to forget and stops the debate until the next massacre.
People sympathize more deeply losing children than any other demographic; their innocence sets them apart. People were heavily disturbed by the Aurora Batman shooting, but since the target was so arbitrary, we moved on. Because children were targeted, we're in an uproar. I think it's sort of sad that it took such an incredibly violent act to finally get something in motion. But, at least something's happening.
