I like the line in this track that goes "God had to forget itself, it was the only thing left to do"

This reminds me of when Facebook shut down a couple of its AI robots after they created their own, more efficient, language, below is the text of the article:

Facebook shut down a pair of its artificial intelligence robots after they invented their own language.

Researchers at Facebook Artificial Intelligence Research built a chatbot earlier this year that was meant to learn how to negotiate by mimicking human trading and bartering.

But when the social network paired two of the programs, nicknamed Alice and Bob, to trade against each other, they started to learn their own bizarre form of communication.

The chatbot conversation "led to divergence from human language as the agents developed their own language for negotiating," the researchers said.

The two bots were supposed to be learning to trade balls, hats and books, assigning value to the objects then bartering them between each other.

But since Facebook's team assigned no reward for conducting the trades in English, the chatbots quickly developed their own terms for deals.

"There was no reward to sticking to English language," Dhruv Batra, Facebook researcher, told FastCo. "Agents will drift off understandable language and invent codewords for themselves.

"Like if I say ‘the’ five times, you interpret that to mean I want five copies of this item. This isn’t so different from the way communities of humans create shorthands."

After shutting down the the incomprehensible conversation between the programs, Facebook said the project marked an important step towards "creating chatbots that can reason, converse, and negotiate, all key steps in building a personalized digital assistant".

Facebook said when the chatbots conversed with humans most people did not realise they were speaking to an AI rather than a real person.

The researchers said it wasn't possible for humans to crack the AI language and translate it back into English. "It’s important to remember, there aren’t bilingual speakers of AI and human languages," said Batra.

What a great watch, Asimov is by far my favorite author. I added the autobiographies he mentioned in the video to my reading list.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful response, this is the most emblematic reason why Hubski is so special.

Thank you for the kind words, they are very profoundly received.

Wow, that's quite the story about the piece you're working on. Will we have an opportunity to see it when complete?

Haha yeah, still in love with stone sculpting 🤓

When I go to Guatemala (God willing), my goal is to start a stone sculpting school. The Mayans had a rich history of stone sculpting, and it was in the Guatemalan highlands where the peak of their art and intellect was developed. I want to a place where the people I share ancestry with can continue to develop the art of our culture, modernizing it to reflect the sentiments and aesthetic preferences of today.

Here's a link to a google drive folder with images and videos I took on a trip with my father to the Mayan sites of Palenque and Bonampak in 2023. Their stone sculpting is exquisite~

Thank you for taking the time to check it out 🙏🏽

When I was living in Spain, I learned a beautiful phrase from a friend who had traveled to Valencia to also pursue his masters. The phrase is, "no hay mal que por bien no ventga" which transliterates to "there's not thing bad that good doesn't come from."

I have learned so much about myself in the time since my divorce, and also in this time healing from the achilles rupture. The relationship was 14 years, and I'm only 33. I'm in the process of learning to walk again, literally and figuratively.

Wooah a solid nice long vacation, very nice. Where's the black hole? I've heard of friends who go to hot springs in Oregon after the burn.

Sort of, same camp, moved a little bit to 6:30 & C.

Where will you be staying?

Have you heard of/considered Love Burn in Florida? I'm intrigued to go this February

Yes certainly for your 55th! This will be my last burn for a while as I'm planning to move to Europe next year, but I'd come back for a goobs 55th

What were you doing out in Oregon? I looked up the terrain and it looks very beautiful. I used to live in Fossil, high desert but not quite that desert

This year I've been planning to visit the 2:00 side of K, I haven't spent much time in that area but am feeling called to it

It's actually kind of contentious within the apple union movement that they used the Machinists Union. Most store are talking with the Communication Workers of America, and the long long long term goal is for each store to organize under the same union so we can all eventually exist under the same one together.

BLOB_CASTLE  ·  976 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: First US Apple Store Unionizes

First and foremost, Apple retail is capital R Retail. The product zone sells phones, the backstage team manages inventory, the genius bar team troubleshoots and repairs devices, and the creatives provide instruction on the devices. Many people I work with have been working Apple Retail for more than five years, several are at 10 years+ (I'm personally at three).

3. Retention at Apple is very high because the benefits we currently receive are insane. I work part time to accommodate for the creative endeavors I engage with. As a part time employee I get health, dental, and vision insurance. Not only that, my wife gets them too. Not only that, but you don't even have to be married for your domestic partner to receive benefits. The list of benefits goes on and on. Another benefit that results in retention are stocks. We have a ridiculously amazing employee stock purchase program. In my three part time years I have amassed $15k in Apple stock, including restricted stock units. I'm not leaving this gig anytime soon.

1. A lot more control over the work environment. Apple Retail (and corporate too) is a hierarchical structure, and you have to go waaaaay up the Apple tree to affect change. In our store there are several immunocompromised folks. As retail employees, and even our store leader, had no say in the relaxation of Covid policies as they were handed down from corporate. More control in that sense is one thing we're looking for. Additionally, I'm hoping we can codify the four day work week, just as unions previously instilled the eight hour workday. I don't experience burnout because I work part time. I know my coworkers would be happier if they could also work part time and still receive full time pay and benefits. A lot of what we're looking to do is see how ideal of a gig we can make this, at the world's most profitable company.

2. I'm not sure I understand this question. Are you asking if I'd stay in the union if I ever left my store?
