I'm not really sure what to think of it. My expectations were pretty low after Angles but this isn't half bad I guess. It's a step in a new direction anyways, and I commend them for that.
After one listen I would put it above Angles, but about on par with First Impressions of Earth. If I didn't dislike One Way Trigger so, so, so very much it might be above FIoE.
I gotta say, "One Way Trigger" is growing on me. Maybe give it time? Pretend it's a band you've never heard before and have no expectations for.
I'll have to give it another listen or two but that's exactly what I thought. I actually liked the first 10 or so songs on FIOE but it trailed off after that. I don't think CM follows that pattern but I think the quality of songwriting is about the same. I actually kind of like One Way Trigger, to be honest. It's definitely better than All The Time; it's sad when you know the Strokes can write a better Strokes rip off song (Under Cover Of Darkness), not to mention an actual Strokes song (anything off the first two albums).
Granted, I've only listened once through and definitely didn't give it the attention it deserves, but I think it's pretty damn good. I dig it.
