Set the draft for this Thursday, March 28th @ 8:30 Chicago time.
Not sure if there's any interest or if there's something else running that I'm not aware of, but thought this could be a fun thing to do and I'm itching for another draft.
ah, that's a bummer. i sat out last year, and on one hand it was tough, i missed out on the morning routine of setting rosters and reading up on league news, but on the other hand it was a welcome reprieve from the associated stress. what will you be doing this summer without internet access? sounds interesting, if only because you won't have internet access.
I have never done this before, what exactly does it entail? I love baseball, but it has been at least two years since I have actively followed the sport at all. I am completely out of it in regards to Colies playing where et cetera. Is it even worth me joining? I would also have to keep track of games via the Internet only. I do not have cable TV. Could be a great way to get reintroduced?
good questions! could be a great way to get reintroduced, or could end up being an endless source of frustration. if you're curious enough to give it a try, please understand that i doubt this would be hopelessly competitive. i've set it up in a way that should encourage somewhat active participation, as it's "head to head" (meaning, fake teams playing against each other - one week could be thenewgreen vs. hiss, next week would be thenewgreen vs. mk, etc.) rather than "rotisserie" (fake teams accumulate stats over the course of the season, easy to drop off early and never make up ground). i rarely watch games, maybe one or two a month over the course of the season if i'm lucky. i will listen on the radio when i get a chance and catch a game at a bar if it's on, but baseball isn't exactly appointment viewing for me other than for the occasional pitching matchup i'd really like to see. so being an active consumer of baseball isn't necessarily a requirement. edit: didn't answer the most important question - what does it entail? - a couple hours this thursday evening to choose a team. i did a draft just last night in about 90 minutes. - every day you'll want to check in on your team and slot your active hitters and active starting pitchers into the lineup. you can get as granular and micro-manager-y as you like with this. some people set their lineups a week in advance, others (like me) do it every day over morning coffee. it's more fun that way, imho, and i think you'll 'learn' more, but it's up to you.
I really want to do this but I think I'll be a disappointment to the group. I just can't commit to something that occurs every day. Plus, I'm fairly sure I'd continuously get my ass kicked.
Nice. Backpacking with friends, going solo or more stationary in one area?
