Some of these aren't so bad. You could meet writers who aspire to be "a large shaggy dog just unchained scouring the beaches of the world and baying at the moon." I've heard meaner in my own life.

As for Stein's remark about Pound, I found funnier something she said about him as a person rather than as a writer: "All he has to do is come in and sit down for half an hour. When he leaves, the chair's broken, the lamp's broken. Ez is fine, but I can't afford to have him in the house."
