I've always loved the original series of The Office, so you can understand how it took some time for me to get a handle on the American version. It's a very different show with some very different themes — but exciting and clever in its own way. Now that the show has ended, here's my retrospective analysis of what the past nine years have really been about.
I really need to watch the past few seasons. I stopped watching on a regular basis after Carell departed. But it sounds like the show kept on being great, just in a different way.
Carell was good, but he was never the center of the show for me. I always enjoyed the other characters much more, which is why I felt like the show really spread its wings after Carell left. Maybe it's just me, but I'm definitely on Team Dwight. The one where Dwight fakes a fire in the building and Angela attempts to throw her cats through the ceiling was pure bliss.
I enjoyed the show and watched up until the point when James Spader left. It sounds like I missed out on some interesting developments. For example, I had t realized that the film crew be and part of the plot line. -that's brilliant. I look forward to jumping back in where I left off once all of it is available on Netflix.
It's all on Hulu, if you're that way inclined. It's a fun show and I'm really glad they had the imagination to take it to some interesting places. Also, Spader made a fantastic boss. I think they knew the show was going to end soon, so they made the bosses as insane as they could.
