I've seen some variant of this in digital tip jars.

Totally agree with that. It would also be great if sites could slow down on the unnecessary JavaScript. I have visited sites that due trivial shit (like comments, fonts, content) in a manner that JavaScript is mandatory. This will not work with things like this, and never really should have been done in the first place.

Spammy.

_You_ are the author, as your username would suggest. You are under no obligation to refer to your self in the third person.

As I can foresee you accusing me of skirting the issue, I am not obliged to explain my dislike. Your having ammunition ready for people that disagree with you does not make your opinion superior or "correct".

Simply put, I disagree, and I am not interested in, nor do I have the time for, writing a dissertation on that matter.

I strongly disagree.

One option is to run a netlabel, and publish artists via the blog. Another option is to provide a curated music collection, much like FreeMusicArchive curators do.

Well, the marriage certificate is that contract. We saw what happened when the states were given room to oversee that contract.

I cannot think of an instance where the government itself (not an agent of the government such as a clerk) has denied such a contract/license. As such, I do not consider it as "asking", especially as marriage licenses are pretty much always issued at the time they are requested, as the only prerequisite is that both (soon to be) spouses consent.

I assume you are referring to marriage as the sort dealt with by a church.

The government's not touch that. This just says that states cannot prevent two individuals from going to their County Clerk and getting a marriage certificate, which among other things establishes joint taxes, and next of kin.

Biblical marriage is the union of one man to one woman. This has to do with public documents and court documents that dictate how very important processes like taxation, deed transfer, visitation, guardianship, power of attorney, and much more work.

This does not effect how ceremonial marriage works. A church is not obligated to perform a marriage. Churches do not file marriage certificates. Furthermore, many churches have performed marriages between same-sex couples since long before same sex marriage (the public law type) was legal.

To sum it up, marriage already _was_ a law. Several states had additional laws dictating what marriage was. These were at odds with the certain provisions of the US' Constitution and were impeding upon the rights of many citizens.

The "truth" here is that Marriage, as far as the Federal Government and any administrative district is concerned is simply a provision that says that Person A and Person B are entitled to certain joint rights.

That's really something isn't it?

It's a shame, though, that no officially sanctioned group wants to pitch in (at least the article makes it seem that way) if only because they cannot see beyond finance. How short sighted.

Sea Shepherd does some cool stuff, though. It would really be interesting to be aboard one of their vessels.

Personally, I like the no-bullshit dark theme. I also like Pinboard's no-bullshit appearance: list of links, two buttons, search box.
