After years of documentary addiction I decided to build a website that brought together the best ones I had watched. I've compiled and categorised 100+ movies, including DVD covers, descriptions, trailers and the actual movies. All free and legit for everyone to enjoy during a boring Sunday afternoon. There's something for everyone's taste.
Constructive feedback welcome.
Out of the 10 I clicked, two weren't working. One was Fahrenheit 9/11. I have this DVD and don't mind sending it to you since my computer is slow as hell and wouldn't stand a chance at uploading it to the internet. I have a few documentaries that I don't mind lending actually. I used reddit mainly to exchange favorite books and dvds and it was a positive experience on whole. I don't mind extending it to hubski. :)
Ah, I don't actually upload any of them, that would be illegal. I simply aggregate the ones I find online. That's an interesting stack of DVDs : ) I have watched 4 of those and will look the other ones up. I like to see that you have the KGB UFO files. Have you seen The Disclosure Project (2001) and more recently Sirius? Some wild stuff if you're into this sort of thing ; ) Actually I wonder what hubskiers make of the UFO subject. Am I wrong to assume that this seems to be more of a main stream kind of crowd?I have this DVD and don't mind sending it to you since my computer is slow as hell and wouldn't stand a chance at uploading it to the internet.

I won't push any further, but the offer still stands if you want to see one. I'll definitely watch them before the end of the week. The government covering up things is expected by this point, but that doesn't mean we can't find out to what extent. Who would want to refuse release of this information to the world? Could they have discovered something that no one can understand as of now? Could it be used as a weapon? I'm not the type of enthusiast who claims everything could be caused by aliens, but it could be aliens. Joking aside, if there were attempts to find other life by alien civilizations, I would love to find out about it.Have you seen The Disclosure Project (2001) and more recently Sirius? Thanks deiki. My motto about this (and many other taboo/controversial subjects) is to keep an open mind. Not to believe any one one source but not to reject the whole subject either if one source is dubious. If we do our own research, I believe in time the truth (if any) will start raising up from the dirt and it'll be obvious for everyone to see. I'd be curious to know your opinion on those videos when you get to watch them.
Ah, I like to call that the George Carlin mindset. He just rejects everything and ridicules it for the rest of our entertainment. I'm watching them on Friday, right before I leave for Fullerton. Saturday is 24 hour comic day, so I'm wondering how they will affect my comic. I'm excited to watch them though!
What a legend, one of my favourite comedians. I'd love to see the end result : )Ah, I like to call that the George Carlin mindset. He just rejects everything and ridicules it for the rest of our entertainment.

Do you enjoy him before or after his wife died? The way he is afterwards is pretty dark, but I love how straight-edged his comedy becomes. If anything, I imagine that's probably how Mark Twain was on stage. I would give my unborn child to time travel to one of his talks. We can talk about the films when I get my comic back!I'd love to see the end result : )
I'm not sure in what phase of his life he was when his comedy became more political and like you say darker. When he stopped with fluffy superficial comedy and went deep and to the core of the ugly of society. That's the part of his work that I really admire. His brutal honesty, even if he's insulting you, you still love him for pointing out the absurd and rotten in society.
Good to know you liked them : ) There are a few other documentaries on the subject under the Universe category of Lucid Tree if you're interested.
I love the design. It's very easy to use. One thing i would like different would be for it to be possible to have multiple movie's loading on the same page simultaneously (when i click 'watch movie' while another is already open, it closes the first). I know nothing of web design so if there is a reason for this featuer then i apologise for bothering you.
Thank you for the suggestion. Actually originally you were able to play multiple videos simultaneously but it became a bit chaotic and slowed down the browser as you could potentially play all the videos! So I limited it to one video at a time. May I ask in which instance you'd would like to play more than one video? Thank you.
It's not really a case of wanting to play two videos at once, as much as i want to watch one while a second is given time to buffer.
Here is my stoner review of Press Pause Play: http://hubski.com/pub?id=79273 It was an interesting watch but is more something to watch if you want to get the beginnings of a lot of thoughts and think yourself. Not so much an educational documentary.
The first two videos I've tried "Bowling for Columbine" and "American Autumn" did not have valid videos on youtube. They'd been removed. Just an FYI that if I was a first time user of your site and this happened after two vid's I'd likely leave. Just a heads up.
I still haven't automated detection of broken links/embeds so its a time consuming, manual process at the moment, which is far from ideal so I appreciate your heads up. Fixed Bowling for Columbine but couldn't find a working stream for American Autumn, sorry.
...so that means that your "free" documentary library is actually "documentaries that are being streamed until the copyright holder takes them down." Correct? There are tons of free documentaries out there, many hosted on their own sites. It would be to your advantage to focus on them and then link to Hulu/Amazon/iTunes/Netflix for the ones that aren't actually being shown free. ...especially if you're going to ask for donations.
Thank you for the feedback. There are already quite a few free documentaries (look for the yellow free tag) on Lucid Tree. But as I said this is my personal selection. The point was never to make a general documentary site, it was (is) to share content that I feel is pertinent and of value. As for the source of the streams, if they are already out there, why not aggregate them into one, easy to navigate, ad free place? The website has been up for a year and I have yet to receive a donation. As I said in the comment above, I'm not asking for donations as much as I am showing the support for crypto-currency.
I get this -- "Error: ReferenceError: Piwik is not defined" -- popup upon entry, but it doesn't seem to have a discernible effect on website usage. You also may be using your documentary database as a personal soapbox, and that sends the wrong message, but in the end I suppose it doesn't take away from the actual documentaries. Anyway, bookmarked.
I spent a good 3 months of spare time building all the aspects of the website (front and back ends) from scratch. Besides the time I pay hosting/domain costs out of my pocket. Also I can't stand websites cluttered with adverts (thank you hubski, I hope you never succumb to the dark side of marketing : ). I want to keep Lucid Tree as clean as possible and not detract from the content with ads. I obviously didn't build the website to make money but wanted to have a way for people to show appreciation for my effort and running costs, if they so wished to. Also, it's a way of showing support for crypto-currency. I like the idea of open-source decentralized money generation, I think it has huge positive potential, especially in an age when the banking industry seems to be immune to the abuse of its power. Sorry for the ramble, I hope it answers your question.
I have not had a chance to look at it except for on my phone, but it looks really great. Nice work. Ill check it out in more detail later. Are all of the films available to stream full length? Congratulations.
Thank you! It started as a personal compilation and then I thought why not make it public. Not all but the majority of the documentaries are available to stream in full directly from the website. The ones I could find online anyway. They are simply embedded from third party, video sites like youtube, vimeo, etc. I try to keep the links updated but there might be embeds that no longer exist. If you find any please let me know and I'll fix it.
