Yeah, I believe that this effect is called the "reddit hug of death" it happens every now and again. Lucky/unlucky you guys!
There is no number that judges a quality of a user. Badges are given to users, by users to call out exceptional content: http://hubski.com/badgesubs
It's exactly the system I've wanted for Reddit: You have a limited supply of "upvotes" to give out
Honestly, I think the karmawhores will leave after they realize there's no quantifier for "success". After browsing around for a bit, the closest thing I could find to karma is that little number underneith my name, or maybe those small circles in the hubwheel. Also, the differences in how the two sites work will deter karmawhores as well. At least, that's what I hope. Edit: Just realized the number under my name is the number of followers I have. I feel dumb.
Edit 2: I just realized further that the number is underneath my name due to a formatting error. dumb x 2.
If you have any questions about the site, definitely let me know. Welcome Kaftke.Honestly, I think the karmawhores will leave after they realize there's no quantifier for "success".
Good. First and foremost, Hubski is a place to share ideas and information. It's not for the garnering of fake internet points. Still, once you've been on the site for a while, you will notice that the "hub-wheel" beside your name will being to populate. Once it makes a full rotation, you will be able to give a "badge" and you will be able to administer community tags.
The other beautiful part is that if somebody is blatantly posting for the sake of gaining followers or to fill up their hubwheel, it's very to ignore them. You can also ignore domains which is a nice feature. It's easy to find an enclave of Hubski that you like and stick to it. Occasionally venturing out on those cloudy days when you feel like seeing some new and different content if you so choose.
We have no karma. But we do have "zen". Check your settings.
I does look like a gear doesn't it. It's actually a spin on a lotus flower. As in 'Zen'. Get it? I'm going to try and adjust it in a day or so and see if it'll scale. With the Zen setting, there aren't any numbers associated with your feed. No count of followers, or badges, or even shares - hence the obsolescence of the hubwheel feature.
You should post your whole process. It is so gorgeous when you look at it like that.
Ah, some kind of a "neutral" stage? Oh, by the way, when I click in one of the flowers (be it the default "gray" one or the blue one), it changes and shows the "broken picture" icon. Like this:
Hey coloicito. Seems to be working now. Few things though: When you click reply or submit there is a little mark-up button beside the text box. Have a look at that. It'll show you how to bold and underline things, give shout-outs, and also what file types can be embedded. If you find any more bugs and what-not, you can shout out to mk, or post with the tag 'bugski'. Welcome to Hubski :)
Thanks, mate! I like it so far, the dark style's pretty good, and this seems the perfect place to find intelligent discussion (rather than pun-threads and what not). By the way, maybe it was because I was using an iMac (10.6.8 IIRC). I'm on Linux right now and it works. I'll try it again in Mac OS X and I'll tell you. Also, is there any tag to post suggestions with? Or shall I message you instead?
Message me? Hells no. I can't even believe myself that anyone listens to me around here :) The best thing to do, IMO, is just post a suggestion as a submittal which will typically generate some conversation around the issue. Pros and cons and what-not. You can also shoutout to thenewgreen, mk, b_b, and insomniasexx. They sit at the cool lunch table together.
Let's see how thenewgreen answers this one, because I'm not even sure what a mod is exactly.
b_b covered it. You, the user are the moderators of your own experience. You can follow and unfollow people, tags, and domains. You can also ignore tags and people that you would rather not be included in your feed. Beyond that, you can mute users that you'd rather not have see/comment on your own posts. I hope that helps coloicito. Feel free to "shout out" to myself, insomniasexx or b_b for any future questions. Probably best to let mk and forwardslash focus on site maintenance right now. I'm bouncing around on planes all day, but I will be sure to get back to you or anyone else when able. Welcome to Hubski!
This is slightly off-topic (it's actually a question), but, a few days ago I submitted a link to reddit about a demonstration where 10%~ of the total population of the island went to (100k~ ). Also, there's an "end-less" teachers strike going on too, with a "resistance box" (to cover what those teachers loose for going on a strike) that already has 300k€ + a Miro painting (10k). It was absolutely ignored by reddit (+2), probably because it happened in a rather-stranded island that barely anyone in the US knows (Mallorca, Spain). IMO it's a big deal (you don't see the 10% of the total population of a region going to a single demonstration too often, it would be like seeing 837M~ in NY) as well as demonstrating how a society can unite towards a single end (the 300K~€ in that "box" + the Miro painting [donated by one of Miro's heirs]), so it was weird to see reddit ignoring it. I guess it would be okay to post it here (if I can get google to translate it to english, goddamnit!), right? (tags being... #news and #eupolitics, maybe?)
This is one of my favorite recently added features. I should really use it more often...and that does look like a gear now that you mention it.
