I think a successful example of product placement is on the show Chuck. The show was basically saved in its third season by picking up Subway as an integral advertising partner. Regardless of your opinion of the show, it proves to be an interesting experiment in product placement.

This reminds me (for no apparent reason) of the SOB campaign in "Arrested Development". If you aren't familiar with it, SOB stood for "Save Our Bluths". It was a hilarious episode that went through all the familiar ploys of TV shows in danger of being canceled; cameos, overt adverts and pleas for the audience to "tell their friends". Great show, wish Subway had bailed them out.
