Gingrich would make for the most exciting "silly season" of all of them. He's incredibly brash, arrogant and unapologetic. All of these things = a pretty easy victory for Obama, imo. Romney will be a more worthy adversary... or Hugo Chevez.

Gingrich is a low life and any self respecting republican ought to have the decency to admit it. Still not sure why they don't throw their support behind Huntsman?

The Republican party has now shifted so far to the right in their asymptote-chasing that Huntsman looks like a bomb-throwing, pot-smoking, baby-stealing liberal. The fact that a radical like Grover Norquist could hold sway over the party that created the EPA says a lot. If Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln or Richard Nixon were to run today, they couldn't even secure their party's nomination.

I've got a square-jawed, smart, photogenic friend from San Diego. He's got a future in politics. I'm toying with the idea of running him as a Republican simply because there aren't any non-batshit ones and I think it'd be fun to push the whole thing around the compass once and start coming at liberal/green from the right. This whole "social conservative" thing only dates back to Reagan and it's fuckin' buried the country.

Before throwing your support behind your square-jawed friend, I'd ask him to reveal his deepest darkest secret to you. We all have them, it'd be good to know what it was before hand. Actually, what am I saying. Apparently you can take hundreds of thousands of dollars from special interest groups, cheat on your dying wife while lambasting someone else for cheating on their healthy wife and still get to become the front runner.

I think it would be a brilliant maneuver politically. Your friend could run as the "Restore the Right" movement "Celebrating intellect" Alex P. Keaton style! Remember when being a republican meant you were of the elite, upper echelon, well educated class? Now it's the "don't touch my guns, anti-intellectual, bible thumping, constitution humping party brought to you by evangelical morons".

I miss Alex P. Keaton's version.

Good luck, let me know
