I listened to this on the way to work this morning. It's been with me since.
The Gymnopedies are some of the most haunting and wonderful works by Satie. If you are interested in this work, you might also be interested in Satie's Trois Gnossiennes. There is also a "fun" piece called Vexations. On the original score, Satie had written the following: This has most recently been interpreted to mean that the piece _should_ be played in succession 840 times! I don't play the piano, so I really can't imagine how one's hands must feel after that piece. If you are in France, you can visit Satie's hotel room near the Chat Noir. EDIT: I wanted to add one more thing. This piece is featured predominantly in the film "My Dinner with Andre" and also in a spoofed version of that film in the television show "Community""In order to play the theme 840 times in succession, it would be advisable to prepare oneself beforehand, and in the deepest silence, by serious immobilities"
Tony McManus Plays Eric Satie. Great guitarist plays a great interpretation for guitar is some funky tuning.
That was really nice. The guitar gives it a warmth that otherwise it doesn't have. Thanks for sharing.
One of my favorites! I love Satie's work. If you're looking for more by him, his Gnossiennes are equally haunting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUAF3abGY2M
What a wonderful composition. I first listened to it 489 days ago when Owl introduced me. I've since listened to it during long runs, while driving through West Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountain's in a rain storm and while trying to get my daughter to have a "quiet time." It's an incredibly emotive piece. I adore it.
Jesus; It's been a little more than a year already? I could still post tons of links of composers everyone should check out and never be done with it. Classical is just so damned replete with amazing composers. I'm glad my post was appreciated enough to be talked about to this day!
...And it's done. Sort of. It's a kind of part 1, I guess: http://hubski.com/pub?id=112242 I put my personal tag on it, though I dunno if anyone else could see it, so I figure posting it here wouldn't hurt.
Nice. I think I'll go edit the tag and add it to my music.thenewgreen tag.
