In the endless fight against superstition and fakery in India, campaigners for rationalism have to use every trick in the book to beat so-called holy men at their own game.
While we're at it let's link Kumare.
Kumare was a neat film exposing how a soul needing to fill a void can find it in a guru... even if that guru is a charlton. I liked that most of the folks fooled by Kumare were willing to forgive him for this experience... Many found a new sense of peace from his teachings. Paraphriasing here... "look within for your strengths, you are capable of achieving your goals"... Reminds me a little of "The Secret" laws of attraction and Stuart Smalley... or should I say Senator Stuart Smalley (see it works!).
The propensity to believe that some mystic will solve your problems runs across the social spectrum.
every culture has its soothsayers, it's snake oil salesman, it's charlatans. Check out this great post by Zeus about the Ouija board.
