This brings back memories. I used to code and play MUDs with some friends in the 90s.
Ever play Codename: ICEMAN? So hard . . . I could never get past the submarine.
Don't think I ever played that one. I stuck to one called Haven mostly, and another called Vendain that my friend created and did most of the coding for, and I and a few others helped him out coding content while he did all the engine/rolling/combat stuff. There were some others, but forget the names. All typical fantasy shit though. These were all text based games, which is normally inferred by the term MUD. Had to play through telnet, and it was all from a prompt. Much like the game linked for this thread. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MUD My first graphical game on computer was one of the King's Quest games, forget which one.
Oh my stars, overwhelming nostalgia for King's Quest. I remember I was about 6 playing one of those at a friend's house and an evil witch popped up, then suddenly the fanblade from my friend's fan came loose and embedded itself in the wall near us. We were all "woooooah." Heh. King's Quest.
Is this the original "Zork?" Only ever played "return to Zork," and by that time it was graphics-based. Still great. It's amazing what can be accomplished with just text. In a lot of ways, games like these make current graphics-monsters seem like duplo blocks.
How do you do stuff?
All I worked out to do is open the mailbox and read the letter. Finally thought of typing 'help' in ...
Ya, I did realize that... but then when you click on the house there is a little interactive game that opens up.
What canyon? How did you get to a canyon? I can't escape the house.
"You are at the top of the great canyon on its south wall. From here there is a marvelous view of the canyon and parts of the Frigid River upstream. Across the canyon, the walls of the white cliffs still appear to loom far above. Following the canyon upstream (north and northwest), Aragain Falls may be seen, complete with rainbow. Fortunately, my vision is better than average, and I can discern the top of flood control dam #3 far to the distant north. To the west and south can be seen an immense forest, stretching for miles around. It is possible to climb down into the canyon from here." humanodon don't waste your time. I had the egg, the sword, the dagger, the brown sack. I put them all in the trophy case and headed back to the forest. Now I could really use the dagger. Sigh. Another day I'll head up the Frigid River, but not today.
Cadell, I'm surprised that you've not seen this yet. I guess that's a good thing, it means you are not getting errors. Fun game, eh?
Very fun. (although it freaked Lish and I out at first... good times). Is the image that appear when you enter "masturbate" Princess Peach?
