Perfect Pussy is such an awesome band. They've been blowing up as of late too. My record label has a show with them, Potty Mouth, Ovlov, and a couple of other bands in early January and it's going to be an insane show.
Oh what!? I didn't know about that tour, I'll have to hit up the Allston or Northampton show. Potty Mouth is opening for Waxahatchee next month and I'm psyched for that show.
50! So I've probably listened to about thirty albums this week, catching up on '13 stuff. A lot of it is covered in the NPR list that was posted a couple days ago. An absolute standout was Darkside's Psychic, won't link a song because you have to listen to the whole album for effect. Hypnotic electrohouse. Ultimately I still haven't found anything that topped the best song (and album) of the year. I suppose there's still time.
Based on an album list by theadvancedapes I've found quite some good artists. Including this great album, which sounds like a crossover between Coldplay's Atlas and Young the Giant:
Yeah I like their music a lot :) (plus I discovered that typing Alt J makes a ∆ on my computer) Their album An Awesome Wave is pretty good.
Congrats on getting to number 50 for this! I've been listening to some very sad, very lo-fi local music lately (and doing some catching up on albums from 2013). I've seen Comfy play two nights in a row now since getting home, once at a bar and once in a basement and these guys are incredible live. Last night I saw The Fig Mints for the first time, and this band is similar to The Jesus and Mary Chain and Guided by Voices.
St. Vincent has a new album and they give out their song "Birth in reverse" for free on their website: http://ilovestvincent.com I've never heard of them until today, but i've been listening to their stuff all day and I like it :)
St. Vincent is great, Annie Clark is a fantastic musician.. Strange Mercy was one of my favorite albums of 2011, which I conveniently own on white vinyl.
I haven't stopped listening to that album since it dropped. I listen to it casually, and intensely, and sometimes not for months, and each time I come back to it, it's changed somehow and is immensely better than the last time. God I love them both so much.
I had a 10 Hour drive on Thursday so I was able to listen to a good amount of music. Some notable standouts were Breathe Owl Breathe, I would suggest checking out their song titled Ferns Move . Also, I was able to listen to Sandro Perri's impossible spaces album, and I agree with sounds_sound that the song Wolfman is by far the best. I'm not usually a big fan of eight minute long songs, but this is the exception. What a fantastic tune -quite a journey. I probably re listened to that song four times on the drive. I also listened to David Bowie's Hunky Dory start to finish. That is one of the best albums of all time in my opinion, and Bowie's best in my opinion as well. The song Queen Bitch is as good as any song will ever be.
I saw these guys Fever the Ghost live last night. They were absolutely insane live. I don't know what genre this is considered but it's pretty crazy badass. Not as impressed with the one song they have online but live was a great experience.
I've been listening to Passafire Vines. Earthquake starts it off.
The new State Faults video for Wildfires is pretty sick.
