Or any other posture/ergonomic related desk setups? I.e. exercise ball for a chair, or a squatting desk.
I've been contemplating making the move to a standing desk for a few months, I'm just nervous about making the move because I've heard it really needs to be done gradually, but the investment in an adjustable desk (allowing for a gradual change) is pretty damn high. I'd like to just take the leap straight to 100% standing, but that's probably not a great idea.
I've been doing a sit/stand mix for a couple years. In fact - we've had this discussion in the past. The adjustable thing can be done on a budget. I actually ditched the setup (pictured in that other thread) and went back to a make-shift set up that works for me and is more stable. I like the flexibility of standing and sitting. The exercise ball aggravated an old back injury of mine - so I've laid off of it for a while.
Not as my main job. I moonlight at video production sometimes. I left FinalCut open as an easter egg teaser for thenewgreen because we're working on another project...
I always thought a standing desk would be a cool idea. I've never had the initiative to actually go and get/build/buy one though. I hear it's supposed to be good for your health. As it stands, I'll just keep using my couch with the mobile armrest for my "desk" :P
My partner uses a VersaTable. Or she did. Now she uses a sitting desk with a dusty hand-crank. (not bitter) I have worked with people that used them in a cube environment. I think that unless I was particularly disciplined or if I had the shame-factor of an open office environment the desk and me would largely be in the sitting desk position. I have gone from working in a cube environment to working a production floor job. It can be rather dramatic if you have any old injuries in the lower extremities. My ankles and knees took some getting used to standing all day. But that is just a chance for character-building, as my grand-papa used to say. (my partner just rolled-eyes)
