mk and gang, are there any statistics you can make public as to how many active registered users there are on Hubski?
I have no reason for asking other than mild curiosity. The place has grown a lot over the years and, after reading insomniasexx's recent post, I got to thinking what a line graph tracking new users from t0 to the present would look like.
Of course, there may be good reasons for not posting the data, in which case disregard this post (with apologies).
We've talked about this a few times. My inclination is just to share the numbers as they are. However, I do understand the point that the numbers probably don't add to the user experience in a positive way, and if anything, might suggest that the site might be judged by them. It would be weird to me to pick up The New Yorker, and see their circulation numbers included with a graph. Changes in the direction and/or slope of the graph would probably influence my experience with the content. That's not to say that Hubski is akin to The New Yorker, but you can take my point.
Hi mk. Thanks for responding. I certainly take your point and agree there are good reasons for keeping the numbers undisclosed.
I imagine that if I signed up for Hubski right now, I wouldn't know if there were 100,000 users or 1000 users. I kind of like that, and I feel like sharing our exact numbers ruins that mystery for some people. I'd rather protect that. I will say that we have grown considerably and that the amount of lurkers still drastically outweighs the amount of active users. I'll PM you. But seriously, it has nothing to do with being secretive I just know that sometimes too much information can ruin the mystique.
Cheers, thenewgreen. I thought there must be a consideration like that that was keeping the numbers from appearing online. Protecting the mystique is a good reason and I don't want to compromise that. If the offer's still available I'd appreciate the PM (and I certainly wouldn't share it anywhere).
