Google says it's been recommended on hubski a few times before, but George Orwell's Shooting an Elephant essay is pretty entertaining. Short, though. You can find many of his essays here

And here's David Foster Wallace's On the -nearly lethal- comforts of a luxury cruise

I don't read essays very often, looking forward to the suggestions of others.

I was going to say "shooting an Elephant" as well. I bought Orwell's collected essays, got about halfway through and set it down for a bit. I'll get back to it eventually. He is one of the great essayist.

Reading more David Foster Wallace would probably do you no wrong, "lobster" wasn't my favorite.

Was that collected essays the 1000+ page hardcover? I own that and have read about half of it too. It's a really beautiful book.
