A Top 100 list. What are your favorites from the list? What is it missing?
Battle Royale definitely deserves to be on that list, an excellent film if your into that sort of thing.

Two of my favs made it. Big Lebowski and Spinal Tap. I'm surprised there's no Kurosawa on the list. He, as a filmmaker, has a giant cult following. I would put Yojimbo as my number 1. Its the movie that Fistful of Dollars was a remake of. And speaking of which, no Sergio Leone anywhere?!?!

Big Leboski is definitely one of my favorites. I quote it often and have taken to using the Theodor Herzle quote as a personal mantra: "If you will it, there is no dream". There were some movies on there I definitely didn't expect to see, most notably The Gods Must Be Crazy. -I watched that movie a lot when I was a kid.

It seems like almost everyone I know loves The Dude except me. To me, it was an okay movie.

I just watched the movie last night for the first time and the friend who showed it to me said that it got better each time she watched it. She thought it was an okay movie at first but now she absolutely adores it. I was mostly glad to have seen the genesis of so many memes - such as "Goodnight, sweet prince" and "Well that's, like, your, uh, opinion man".

A good movie, like a good album should grow on you. The ones that are immediately satisfying likely gave you all they had in their first viewing.

Yeah, I thought it was a pretty good list too. I like that it's alphabetical and that they didn't try to rate them in order of best -worst.

There's a good amount I haven't seen too. When I was in college my roommates and I attempted to watch all of the AFI top 100 movies. I can't recall how far we got but I do remember thinking Citizen Kane was likely to be over hyped till I watched up. -That movie is so ahead of it's time.

I never considered myself to be big into film, so I was quite surprised to see that I've seen more than a quarter of the films on the list, 27% to be exact. Anyone here watched more than 50% on the list?

I have no desire whatsoever to see Begotten. I have a friend who's into death and black metal. He's very into it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Begotten
I like the director's other movie, though. Shadow of the Vampire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_of_the_vampire

I've never seen Begotten but Shadow of the Vampire was great. I once saw Nosferatu screened at the Historic Wilma Theatre in Missoula Mt. accompanied by the original pipe organs. It was on Halloween and it was awesome.

They have Star Wars on their list. When Ronald Reagan announced the Space Defense Initiative ("Star Wars"), he ended his speech with "May the Force be with you." I don't know how to define a "cult classic." I know for damn sure that some upstart from UBC and some other dude from a no-name university in London don't either. The difference between us is I'm not trying to sell a book.

I didn't read the list thinking it was coming from some sort of "authority" on cult film, I just enjoyed reminiscing about films I've seen and wondering which ones should be on my list to see. The Star Wars movies are amongst those rare cult films that have broad based appeal but also a small base of uber-supportive fans. Star trek would also fall in this category IMO. Reagan also praised Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA. -Apparently he's not big on reading the lyrics.

Star Wars was the most expensive film of 1976. Blade Runner was the most expensive film of 1982. The Sound Of Music displaced Gone with the Wind for highest grossing film at the time.
I can see "favorite." I can see "great." But if you're going to pick one adjective to describe films, be accurate with it. Calling Star Wars a "cult" film is like calling Islam a "cult" religion.

I think you have a valid point. They were pretty loose with their interpretation.

The Evil Dead (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083907/) The very first film that truly scared me. I was in the 7th grade at the time.
