humanodon sent me some poems/lyrics of his and I picked one titled "Exercise, July 2nd." I'm now giving it the working title, Close Quarters, does that work for you Humanodon? It had a lot of lines and I basically just took out lines that I thought constructed a feel and somewhat of a loose narrative. Here is the original:
- I am that you are in me in mine. This is that is this is that is there. We are we’re we aren’t, aren’t we? This is the way that things work these days: we move from one end of the globe to another hoping against hope that every mote and every note means something and that someone is there to sing the song. We’re riding in on the echo and bouncing around is what we do. We take snapshots and potshots of our neighbors and look to layer the grinding gears on one another and into each other we pour the oil of complexity. We are we are we are this is this this is this is how we walk through life, a controlled footfall into another one until we lay down and give up or give in to the love we have we lack we live for. This is the way things work these days. This is why we work all day this is why when we don’t we go mad, we go crazy at the thought that this day is our last and that yesterday was a shitty ending and so carry one. We are wayward as ever and cross oceans teeming with the tears of all life and love and misery and all the other tears torn away from our blinking eyes, this is how we live our lives. We live far away from each other, but close enough to touch, if we’re only brave enough. We live close enough to breathe in what we breathe out and we perspire together. The situation is dire: we are all getting older and time erodes our flesh. We are all getting older and it’s very dark where we’re going and no one’s got a light. Everyone quit smoking and the fire is low and the tide at the end of the tunnel is no place for the rising light. We are lonely and that is our curse. We are singular and that is the same thing. We are individual, most especially when we take our clothes off and so we wear layers. We wear layers of thoughts and creeds and prayers and we armor ourselves against the cold wind that is the freedom we crave. A little breeze across the face is what we can handle, but the wind gusting through our open legs and upraised arms is something we can’t hold a candle to.
Here are the lyrics in the song:
Close Quarters
I am that, you are in me, in mine
This is that, this is that, this is there
We are we're we aren't aren't we
This is the way that things work these days
We move from one end
Of the globe to another
Hoping against hope that
We'll find each other
Riding in on the echo
Bouncing around
This is this, this is this
This is how we walk
Lay down, give in to the love
This is how things work these days
We live close enough to breathe in what we breathe out
We live close enough to perspire together
yeah
We move from one end
Of the globe to another
Hoping against hope that
We'll find each other
We're getting older
Our flesh erodes
It's getting darker
Where we are going
Wearing layers of thoughts, creeds and prayers
Armor ourselves from what we crave
We live close enough to breathe in what we breathe out
We live close enough to perspire together
A little breeze across my face, that I can handle
Yeah
This song has some potential imo, even in spite of my horrid drumming. ghostoffuffle, T-Dog, jonaswildman, mrjasonetaylor, rezzeJ, theholywombat, galen or any other musicians, you interested in taking a crack at it? Let us know so we don't double up efforts. Rico, thanks again for the collaboration, I hope you're cool with it. It has some dark lyrics and therefore I thought having an upbeat, happy sounding song would be a nice juxtaposition.
Electric bass. My laptop's mic isn't all too shabby.
Schools currently filling a lot in my life not leaving room for much else, which is why i havent had much time for anything else. I'll see if i can get around to doing something with it because it sounds very promising, good job!
Please do, I'd be glad to have some collaborating happening again. I know ghostoffuffle was going to throw some tracks down too.
In travel mode this weekend for a wedding that nobody's excited about, but yes, I have some synths and some vox down. Can add on top of a newer version if anything develops before I'm back. Across the country with a toddler and two infants. Pray for me.
Good luck pal! Did you upload the version you worked on and I missed it or are you waiting till you return? Enjoy the wedding, make the most of it. Dance. A lot.
Haven't uploaded yet because I'm not quite happy with it. Got some work to do, you'll be glad for the waiting time when it comes out fully-cooked.
Did you cut a rug in your giant suit? You know, I've never watched "Stop Making Sense."
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? Watch it pronto, thank me right after. I did. The dancing was the highlight of an otherwise very dispiriting weekend. Might bitch and moan about it at the next pubski if I can stand to. Digging through your new music submissions tonight, finishing my additions to the penultimate one this week.
What a bummer. Were you sans kids? If so, that is DEFINITELY a bummer. Those trips without kids are precious. (shhh, don't tell the kids). The most recent submission of Humanodon songs is intentionally wide open. It's not very exciting right now, but I think it could be. I dunno. I'll watch it, I can't believe I haven't. It's one of those things where I just kind of nod whenever its brought up. I love Talking Heads, just never had the opportunity.
Kids were there, that was part of the whole issue, I think. Although nothing beats seeing your four year old dressed in a poofy dress and a crown of roses. TBH, I can barely think about the weekend right now. I'll type it out when the sting wears off, maybe.
Added some bottom. If you want a cleaner cut or something else, just lemme know!
I dig it! I love the end, when you "go to town." I'd be interested to hear it in a regular electric bass though, but the playing/parts are great! It's so much fun to hear these things transform.
Yeah I can record another version with electric as opposed to upright. I don't have any recording equipment (although my roommate does). I just used my laptop's mic. I'll see if he could help me play into a box and then into the computer.
