So nobody here at work knows it's my birthday.
Nobody on Facebook knows it's my birthday (except my sister-in-law, who is insidious).
Obviously, nobody on Reddit (or any of its goofy little private communities) know it's my birthday.
For whatever reason, my parents adamantly refused to tell my grandparents aunts and uncles when my birthday was. I was unaware that it was a secret until I was an adult - most of them persisted but my mother's side never knew. I'm still not sure the reason.
My sister's birthday is yesterday. For my sixteenth birthday, my father took my sister, 12, on a shopping spree - an hour drive to Santa Fe, five hours crawling the mall, an hour back, a celebratory dinner. He recalled that he'd missed my birthday the next February.
Suffice it to say my emotional regard of my birthday is conflicted at best - regardless of noteworthy anniversaries.
That said, three people (so far and believe me - THAT'S ENOUGH) on Hubski have wished me happy birthday. The fact that you guys even know says something important, I think.
So, thanks.

Man, I just came over to check this hubski thing out since I'm so fucking over reddit. And top post I see is from you (and no I didn't know it was your birthday on FB)... Happy Birthday! Now I'm off to discover more about this place and see what it's like...
Dude. Dude! Stick around. This is a good posse. Errbody - rraaarr is one badass Kiwi who will totally drop a knowledge bomb on your ass, film-wise. She also tried to convince the lady who green-lit Galaxy Quest to option one of my screenplays, even though it wasn't vaguely funny. She's one of the handful of Reddit peeps that I willingly associate with in real life, which says a lot, i think. Pile on and make her feel welcome.
Hey rraaarr, welcome to Hubski! We created the Primer Page to help those new to the community know about some of the differences Hubski offers. Glad you found us, any friend of kb's is a friend of mine. Let me know if you have any questions about the site. Enjoy!
It's really easy to jam a HD into a flash-only PS3 - just get a HD caddy-thingy and almost any 2.5" drive slots right in.
Ah I see. Thought you were talking about the 12G, no HDD models. I got one of those and slapped a 750G HD in it, a lot cheaper than a 500G stock HD model. If it's on PSN (and I think it is), you wouldn't need the BDROM for that.
So... ....the PS3 came with my buddy's login to PSN, which means it's got like 4 years of all his games. Which also means if I buy Ico, it comes out of his points. Not that he'd mind. But it seems kind of dickish. I'm pretty sure he's watching my neflix account but it's a long way from even. Nonetheless, I haven't had time to watch more than a Youtube video in a week, let alone fire up the PS3.
Happy Birthday KB. I can't say how much I love having you around Hubski. Whether it's Hubski features or a not-thought-out stance on Israel, your insights - however inflammatory they may be at times - are always appreciated. You never let anyone take the easy way out of anything, which forces us all to be better. I wish I could collect and convey my thoughts as well as you do. Perhaps I'll get there one day. Regardless, I hope I'm still kicking as much ass as you when I'm all old and stuff!
I like to cut the bottom off the cupcake and put it on top and eat it that way. I find it neater. Or if the cupcake is ridiculously iced, I will do that, but then take half the icing off the top and put it on the other half of the cake. Elaborate, I know, but I feel it's neater. A knife and plate or napkin of course is required for this operation. ;)
only savages try to eat the whole cupcake with their face. and me in elementary school. which probably explains why i always had frosting in my hairline when we had cupcakes.
This hits right at home for me. Only my girlfriend and mother (who are three days after my own and share my own, respectively) know when my birthday is. I'm uncomfortable with birthdays for a variety of reasons, but the difference between how my birthdays went and how my little sister's went the day before were vast. My father is a pathetic and vile excuse for a human, but in spite of that (or perhaps part of) his interest was solely in his daughter's (relative) happiness. Just the same, I recall getting PMs from people here last year. I don't even remember how people found out. It was nice. Happy birthday.
Now I want to know so I can wish you a happy birthday too. Interested to hear who _refugee_ think is the most curmudgeonly.I don't even remember how people found out.
If wishes were fishes you'd have all of mine today but since THAT'S ENOUGH let me simply welcome you to the other side. It's downhill all the way. Then a slight curve to the left, then a nice, easy rise, then a series of ... but I don't want to spoil it for anyone.
Yeah, that's rough pal. I wonder, are birthdays a universally recognized day of celebration in most cultures? I can't imagine the reasoning for denying it to a child.
No stoppit I'm going to wish you a happy birthday anyway so happy birthday KB! Thanks for sharing this with us!
Little late to the party, but no less enthusiastic for it. Happy birthday, hope it was one of the good ones. I inhaled a cupcake in your honor.
Here's a virtual b-day present for ya - the fly guy (an oldie but a goodie, hope you haven't seen it already) : http://www.trevorvanmeter.com/flyguy/
