According to his website, W. Jason Situ began painting in high school during China's Cultural Revolution.
The type of landscapes that Jason paints normally wouldn't capture my interest. But he has a way of expressing light that seems to have caught it just before it was lost. For this reason, "Sunset Colors" and "Malibu Sunset" (http://i.imgur.com/imXbQ.jpg) are more than pretty paintings to me.
I also appreciate the way that he addresses some of the more permanent fixtures, such as stones and trees. It is as if Jason is painting the light, and everything else is supporting material.
In my opinion the grey background of his website is a mistake.

I like this painting, it is about "the light" and not the objects. That being said, I visited the artists site and it's hard for me to get passed the fact that I've seen similar paintings so many times. Mountains, beaches, sunsets... while all beautiful are hard to present in a new "light" -excuse the pun. So while I applaud the artists ability (one I'm envious of) I think the same mastery of light should be put to use on more interesting subject matter. -Glad I checked this out though.
