Indeed. I know it's not perfect, I just don't see how advertisers are saying "what they like wherever they like with total impunity." I'm all for IP reform but I think Banksy is using unnecessary hyperbole.

I agree. The reversal he is painting is thought-provoking, but a bit much when you consider fair use.

It also should be mentioned this isn't "Banksy on Copyright", it is "Banksy on Advertising".

I think this makes a relevant point about the role of the public domain and materials that have been released for public consumption. How can you claim complete control over something that has been blasted directly into millions of eyeballs or ears? Such materials (advertising especially) have entered the cultural consciousness and are beyond anybody's control.

I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as fair use in the UK. The US actually has some of the more balanced IP laws currently, because we've only been exporting our restrictions not the exemptions.

hmm I know this is a delicate topic to be discussed but if you read what is written above bearing in mind that the entertainment/advertising industry is not that old...

"You have to remember that it’s only a few hundred years, if that much, that artists are working with money." - F.F.Coppola http://the99percent.com/articles/6973/Francis-Ford-Coppola-O...

...you might get a different point of view of what it has been written by Banksy, at least what I gather is that money has become a big problem (it always has been), the entertainment/advertising industry is trying to push different laws all around the world, SOPA, PIPA, ACTA, to protect the current money making system, and it's not trying to evolve like the others...

He in my way of understanding is saying that they feel like entitled to put everything in front of your eyes to lure you with the sole purpose so that you will spend money even if those are things you don't necessarily need (but after you see them all around, you think you do).
