For me, 2014 was the year of the collaboration on Hubski. There's no doubt that I've collaborated with more people on Hubski to create more artwork etc than I ever have before. One of the first such collaborations was when kleinbl00 mixed a song of mine called Loose Ends, resulting in... well, a better version of that song. I really enjoyed that. Then there are all of the #hubskioriginalmusicclub submissions, with parts from bgood79, mrjasonetaylor, jonaswildman, ghostoffuffle, T-Dog, theholywombat, coffeesp00ns, rezzeJ, BLOB_CASTLE, ecib and humanodon has been providing us lyrics. I mean, listen to this song which was among the first we recorded -not too shabby. Speaking of that song, it's the track we use as the background music for the Hubski intro video. Yeah, that's right... we made an intro video. I wrote the copy with the help of mk, insomniasexx, b_b and forwardslash. steve made the video. -A great collaboration imo. Speaking of steve, the guy is amazing. He has like 20 children, mentors people at his church and somehow finds time to make the #tngpodcast videos for us. And they're kick ass. What an awesome collaboration that has been for me.
Then we have lil. What would this place be without lil? It would be a lot less interesting, that's for sure. Lil's writing prompts have continued to allow many of us to flex our creative chops around such topics as What Has Washed Up On Your Shore? and Every Key On My Ring Lost It's Purpose. Also, lil has started a new blog for her students which was inspired by the tag #writebetterdammit that caio came up with years ago. I count that as a collaboration and I would definitely suggest checking out her new endeavor.
This year brought us 'bl00's Reviews, and they're pretty amazing. I'd count them as a collaboration as kleinbl00 is taking book recommendations from this post and reviewing some of the reads, with typical kb amusement and insight.
This year mike published his poem The Last Crumb which he shared on Hubski, ThatsAFreeThinker brought us a new movieclub which has been great to participate in, and humanodon gave us the gift of the grubski. -Grubski may be my favorite thing to come out of 2014. It has been a fantastic way to share my Hubski experience with my family, plus I've learned some cooking chops from kleinbl00, ghostoffuffle, b_b, _refugee_ and others. Speaking of ref, she's had her poems published like a gazillion times this year, WELL DONE pal! Check out the Kenning Journal for more of her awesomeness.... but first, I give you b_b's Chicken in his fireplace from KB's grubski FYYYUUUR challenge:
-That happened.
There is so much collaboration on Hubski, so many wonderful personalities, discussions and continued debate. I love it. If only there were a place where we could all gather, a place where our collective powers could battle the darker forces in society. Oh wait, there is:
HUBSKINA -Given to us by our on again, off again creator eightbitsamurai, the Hubskina adventure has been amazing to read. If only it were in game format. Oh wait, it is:
I know I'm forgetting some MAJOR collaborations and some MAJOR hubski events from 2014, but that's what the comment section is for. Call me out.
Now for some Did you know's for the newbies:
1. Did you know that you can follow and filter domains? -I follow the economist
2. Did you know that we have a primer page that gives some guidance and specifics on how Hubski is different?
3. Did you know that rob05c has one of my favorite sections from any of the #tngpodcast's in the podcast on spirituality v religion?
4. Did you see how I just shouted-out to rob05c? It's a function we implemented 1188 days ago
5. Did you know that steve, mk, and mike are vikings axe throwers?
6. Did you know that veen gave us this image which I proudly wear on my favorite t-shirt?
7. Did you know that you can get a Hubski T-shirt here
8. Did you know that our mothers are "food factories?" Just ask wasoxygen
9. Did you know that ButterflyEffect has earned 22 badges from his peers? Did you know that you can too? Just post amazing content and comments, like he does.
10. Did you know we've been here for quite some time, as I'm writing this over 1478 days. That's a while. Some of us have been here the entire time, others have only just arrived. But do you know what is one of the best things about Hubski? It doesn't matter if you're a newbie or cgod -an old curmudgeon of the site, we're glad to have you and hope you help to make 2015 as great a year on the site as 2014 was.
Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, HAPPY HAPPY!
Here's to years and years of more collaborations on this site. I'll leave the talk of the future to mk, but trust me.... it's bright.
Dude, I'd be ALL ABOUT THAT. But, I have a major, major, major proposition for you. We have like 15 plus #hubskioriginalmusicclub tracks that we've all collaborated on and I really want to have someone (ahem... YOU) take them and mix and master them. Then, I'd love to do a "kick-starter" and raise just enough $ to print some vinyl. It's an odd thing to ask an audio engineer to do, because basically there are just multiple versions of mp3's that you could import, stack and then mix. Each one would be a different version of the same track. Thing is, there's no master session or anything like that. The whole point of the project was for it to be lo-fi. You could take the final track and just play with it, OR... if you were feeling ambitious, you could take earlier versions and import all of them and play around. Know what I'm saying? Anyways, there's literally NOBODY else that I'd want to do this. Here are a few favorites: Eye for an Eye I Was a Boy Someone To Hurt I Shouldn't Listen to the Radio Two Steps Away I Can't Swim Machine -GOD DAMN I LOVE THIS ONE Half Empty Foolish With Time -Remind me to tell you the story of when my boss called me out on this song. Apparently he trawls hubski to make sure I'm being productive. -Fuck that shit. Anyways, it's a tall order to make such a lo-fi, non tracked thing sound good, but if anyone is up to it, it's you. Whattaya say? That's 9 tracks there. I bet we could finish a few more that we've started and get to 10 and have a proper album to release. How cool would that be? The Hubski Singers -sounds like a good band name to me. You in?
Full Disclosure I paid tng for the paragraph above. Just send him Meatballs paraphernalia and you'll have him in the palm of your sticky hands. The rest of the post, though, was great to read. I just clicked the 22 badges link on your #9 and lost myself in conversations about cougars, b_b's one-nighter with an older woman, and references to the The Princess Bride.
I'll have it be known that I work for both Meatballs paraphernalia and Red Dawn paraphernalia. That second link is the first time I realized I enjoyed reading KB's commentary. I'm glad you enjoyed this post lil, it's amazing how much content there is here on this site if you start digging. Lots of wonderful conversations and worm-holes to fall down. I was at a holiday party the other night and people asked me what I "did." I mentioned the day job, but quickly transitioned to music and Hubski. By the end of the conversation the people I was talking to were really interested in Hubski. I told them that the greatest education I've had in my life was Hubski. I read and consume so much content that I'd otherwise not be exposed to. It's pretty cool. Also, how many other sites get you MORE active in "real life?" -I'm cooking, musicing, photography-ing.... oh shit, forgot to post the photo challenge today. Gotta go...
EDIT: Cause, you know this whole december photo challenge has been so wildly popular
Google: hubski: cougaring and it pops up in a bfx thread... You say, "You'll probably learn something, and she'll feel good about herself. It's a complete and utter win/win." Maybe you felt good about yourself too. The amount of sexist bullshit in your meagre description made me SQ (snicker quietly) , as in "Chicks in their 30s aren't so bad." Not so bad indeed. You might even be married to one.
Oh god now I have to delete my account and start over. Google why.
Thanks for putting this together tng, a lot has happened hasn't it? I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention anything off-hand about muting in there. /s
Yeah, that whole "mute" fiasco need not be revisited. If anything, it worked to our advantage... the rational people stuck around, those just looking for a place to hate on left. Good riddance. It always seems to work out that way, the good ones stick around. Good luck with the move, you've got a few months left prior though, right? Any big plans?
Mhmm, though there were a couple of people that left that I miss (mal-2, for instance). But it was still a net gain. Graduate from college at the end of May and start working in Mid-July! Currently there are no big plans, but there probably should be right? Possibly the last 6 months in the Eastern US ever.
