Hi, I'm new here :)
By the way, may I know the username of the creator of the site? and what is the difference between "tag" and "community tag"?
Thanks in advance.
Welcome! If you are interested in learning more about functionality and how Hubski is different, check out https://hubski.com/primer kleinbl00 did a good job describing the team, I appreciate the Woz/Jobs comparison, I had a good laugh. Two more people to point out though, forwardslash is the primary coder these days. The guy has been tirelessly toiling away at a complete rewrite of the site for months now. We should have a beta, testable version in the coming weeks. Also, it's important to recognize that the community literally has a say around here. Probably 70% or more of the functionality of Hubski has been born of user driven suggestions and requests. When an idea reinforces our goal to be a thoughtful place for discussion and the sharing of ideas, we implement it. If you have any questions about the site feel free to Pm me. Also, check out #newtohubski and again, welcome!
There are a few different people responsible for the site. mk is the overlord. insomniasexx and sounds_sound do a lot of the coding and look. thenewgreen is sort of the Jobs to mk's Woz. A tag is something you can assign to your post that isn't changeable by anyone else. The community tag can be overwritten by others, as I just did with yours. Tags are a work in progress, and a contentious one as they aren't quite providing the functionality that mk wishes they did. Welcome. If you look at the bottom of this page you will see a link that says "tutorial." You should watch it.
Not sounds_sound, forwardslash. :) He does the heavy lifting these days.
Thanks for the detailed reply! What does it mean when there is a ".username" at the end of the tag?
It is so that a person may follow a specific person's use of a tag. The username is automatically put at the end of a tag used in posting. Hello, by the way.
As the one non coder on the team, I really miss having you on the call. You have many talents, not the least of which is being incredibly cynical in regards to new ideas, something that served us well. There were many times when the phrase, "that's a fucking horrible idea" or, "that's fucking stupid," edit: or the best "if people are too dumb to understand "x" then fuck em" came out of your mouth and the site is better for it. My hope is that you are still providing such feedback to mk, just at work and not on the call. You coming to nc for that wings game or not?
Aha yes. I didn't realize until after I'd made my account that almost nobody on here has numbers in their names! Now I feel a little silly. See, 16 was my "student number" in elementary school for several years in a row, and I got attached to it. So I've been using in in usernames and whatnot for my entire online existence.
and don't forget TheGreatAbider16 -- and then there's 8bit.
Awww-yeah, numbernames unite! Mine actually has some meaning, but it's pretty obscure.
Any particular reason for the 16 in your name @gamehelp@? While we're on the topic of your name, do you need any game help? Hubski has a good few gamers, programmers and probably game designers(Any of you ever worked on a game?), I spend a lot of my time doing all three.
Back when I'm still not very good on making websites I tried to create a website for fun using a free hosting service, and I decided to make some sort of game walkthrough website (the website is really, really simple) and I decided to name the site "gamehelp" (it's not really creative, eh?). The 16 is from the site url which is actually a subdomain of "net16.net" (I'm using free (sub)domain provided by the web hosting site) I hope I explained this well Also I have made a few (not really good :p) incremental games:
False! I was just playing The Gold Factory, it's great! I am yet to fight the castle guard and I'm digging in the hidden hole above the training thing. Chickens looks cool too, I just clicked it. Reminds me a lot of A Dark Room, which was awesome.(not very good)
