Social study on bike theft in New York City.
I had my car stolen and then my bike the next week. I was down to just a skateboard. I must say I'm not surprised no one stopped to question him.
I once stopped to question someone removing a car stereo from a vehicle. He got really mad, how dare I accuse him of stealing when he was changing stereos in his own car? I thought he should have thanked me. Huh.

I've noticed that if no one says anything, then NO ONE says anything. However if just one person says something others follow.
I live in SF and when I see something like this I stop and ask them if they need help, then I call the police. Whenever I do this others stop and get involved.

I've had 2 bikes stolen. It's a really shitty feeling and it can really make you cynical. You start eyeballing your neighbors in ways you didn't before. Both were stolen from my home.
Great video.

I had a really awesome mountain bike stolen from the storage unit in the basement of my apartment building...which was key coded so only people who lived in the building had access. Talk about getting suspicious of your neighbors. It is such a shitty thing. Who sees something that clearly belongs to a neighbor (or anyone for that matter) and thinks to themselves, "That's cool; I guess I 'll take it." Unbelievable.

That's where my first bike was stolen from. Some idiot in our building gave access to a homeless kid to sleep down there. He stole a lot of our stuff.

"Most of the harm in the world is done by good people, and not by accident, lapse, or omission. It is the result of their deliberate actions, long persevered in, which they hold to be motivated by high ideals toward virtuous ends" ~ Isabel Paterson
