hi! I've been an occasional hubski visitor for a few years now, and I'm finally making steps to migrate content over this-a-way.
I read a fair amount of articles -- cutting edge math & science, weird stuff, I don't know what all -- and I've sort of blindly stumbled through posting them in communities that weren't really favorable towards them. (nobody clicks article links on tumblr, facebook or twitter... except me...?)
that'll probably be the bulk of my posts -- I'd like to also participate in discussions and I do listen to a lot of music (but I have a blog for that, so idk about crossposting).
anyway, hi! how do I find people to follow, and why haven't I learned to tag well yet? is there already a thread to share which people you like following?
Well let me say welcome to the community! A great place to learn about how the layout works is Hubski.com Primer page. This may help you with the format also thesummerking. It may take a little to get use to but it is very nice and easy once you get the hang of it. As for finding tags and people to follow, when you open an article you find interesting there is an option to click. It may be, follow #books if the person posted it in the books tag. To follow people open their post and next to their tags it should have, follow username. By clicking those it's added to your feed and things the users share or post and the tags you follow show up there. To see all the post (I believe) click on global at the top of the screen. You can either sort by time or what I personally call points. The little circles surrounding the big circle. The more points the more your article has been shared (guessing again). You can also click time and posts will be in order from newest posted to oldest. thenewgreen I'd like to double check, is this correct or is it all done differently?
You're awesome. Thanks for your help. I might add that some great content can be found by clicking the badges link in the top bar.
Hello, person! I'm brand new here. Didn't visit or anything. Came to try it out. I'm sort of disappointed with the format and lack of... reading comprehension. I also like weird shit, so if you want to talk about that, shoot!
The thing about the format (which I like) is that it's a bit... I don't want to say off-putting, but it's exactly that -- you have to put more effort into understanding Hubski's functionality in order to navigate or use it well, which is frankly off-putting to some. Some that I don't mind being put off. I'm sorry, that sounds judgy, but -- actually, I think I got this idea from here -- if you're building an internet community, it's like gardening. If you want a diverse herb garden, you need to take steps to prevent the mint from taking over. If you want an easily maintained herb garden, just plant mint. (Mint is a metaphor for "shitty website users", whatever that might mean. Trolls? Karma hounds?) Not sure what you mean by reading comprehension. Do you mean people are posting irrelevant comments without comprehending the original thread, or that you're having trouble comprehending what you're reading? (I hope it's not the latter. I punctuate weirdly, so I'm not particularly making it easy for anyone.)
What kind of weird shit do you like to talk about? I am up for learning new weird things.
