I love walking, the act of putting foot to ground is cathartic in the best way. I walk as much as I can and use the time to reflect and meditate away from the static glow of my various electronic devices. For me, the simplicity of walking highlights what it really means to be human and alive.
I also love asking questions and hearing stories. When I was a barista I would spend hours chatting with regulars, the more eccentric the better. Everyone knows something you don't, and I intend to learn something from each person I meet.
OP, I think you might enjoy Wanderlust: a history of walking by Rebecca Solnit.
It seems right up my alley, I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks!
I like to run outside. I will sometimes run a couple of miles. I used to do middle distance running when I was in school. When a lot of people think of running, they think of a painful experience. I however have always enjoyed running outside because I get to see the world around me and it helps me clear my head.
I love walking too. Something about being completely devoid of an electronic screen simulates my mind and I love the insane dialogues I have with myself while wandering aimlessly. Painfully, living in one of the most polluted city, which is also terrible to pedestrians, has made it more difficult for me to choose it as a method of commute often. I also love playing musical instruments, I play the violin and flute. I realize that I spend more of my free time browsing internet or watching TV series online now. I don't know why, it's as if sub consciously I find playing a music instrument too much work until I actually pick it up and start playing. Strange...
I don't really have any hobbies outside of reading and video games, although I keep trying out new things. Nothing has really stuck with me yet, sadly. I'm going to be trying DND soon, hopefully that will go swimmingly.
It may be cliche, but I really do enjoy my time at the gym and deep meaningful conversations. My time at the gym allows me to enter a wonderfully still, quiet, and focused world: breath in, push, weight down, breath out, weight up. Keep going. You can do it. One more. Good. It's a personal recluse away from the dissonance, bright colours, constant sounds throughout the day, when all my worries temporarily wash away and it's just a singular question of 'can you do it or not?' After finishing, there's always a sense of accomplishment because I feel like I actually DID something today, plus I do get to indulge myself sometimes guilt free (yay for food). Deep conversations engages me, challenges my brain to open my mind's eye to a sight unseen before and absorb, understand, then learn about other people's perspectives. Open ended questions are particularly instructive, because they have infinite variability and so countless ways for one to learn. I love you mom, for having these conversations with me.
Sort of a hobby/compulsion: designing movie, tv, and game posters in photoshop. I have a very large digital media collection, organized through Plex. But a lot of the time I hate the posters that it automatically assigns to the movies and TV shows so I find myself making my own artwork for my collection in photoshop a lot. This also led me to start designing and printing my own game covers for some of my favorites. Since those are one of the last forms of physical media I still frequently use I actually end up printing those and using it in place of the art in the box sleeve. I wouldnt call any of the custom covers phenomenal, but I just find it really calming and fun to make them, and I really like seeing my own artwork for something I love. Small thing but I enjoy doing it.
My video game ones really aren't that great, plus I do them for collections. For example I'll have a 6 disc case that has a bunch of random games and the cover is a mismash of stuff just designed to tell me what's in it. But I recommend you check out the customcovers subreddit, they have some cool stuff you might like looking at.
That's not mundane at all! Honestly, that seems really interesting. would you be willing to share some of your favorites?
