I have grown to love John Oliver, and I think he does a really good job of shedding light on the quieter issues in US society
Ziggy Wilf essentially blackmailed the Minnesota Legislature into paying for part of the new Vikings stadium by threatening to move the team and thus take away a huge driver of the Twin Cities economy. It's disgusting
I remember covering this topic early last year in high school. I did Public Forum debate in high school and we actually had a whole resolution that revolved around the sports industry. There was a heavy light being shined on sports stadiums because of all the tax regulations and such that they dodge. It's crazy to really see how much the US- and specifically individual states- spend on these stadiums and how they majority of them don't end up bringing any real "new money" into local businesses (cities). Really makes you think about where your tax money goes. Love me some John Oliver.
The Cincinnati bit at the end was pretty funny. I saw him perform live a few months back in Raleigh, he was pretty good. Talented fella.
