What a great question. Crosby is on Pittsburgh, but you're thinking Penguins; the Pirates are their baseball team. They definitely have a good chance of winning. They have the two best forwards in the playoffs. thenewgreen and I are both huge Red Wings fans (sounds_sound, have they turned you into a 'Nucks fan up there?), and they also have a really solid shot at winning. The others I would give a chance to are the Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators.

Personally, if I didn't have a strong rooting interest in the Wings (being a life long Detroiter), I would probably throw my support behind Nashville. They are a pretty young team, and have never won. However, they have a lot of grit and two awesome defensemen (Ryan Suter and Shea Weber), who are fan favorites and do everything right. They have a lot to like, especially good coaching, defense and goaltending, all of which wins championships. They've been unsuccessful in the last, because they lacked good forwards, but they upgraded a lot this year.

Anyway, if you want to try to choose the likeliest winner, I would probably say Vancouver or Pittsburgh, but if you want to root for a good squad I would go Nashville. But, if you want to root for beautiful hockey, then support the wings, who have the greatest artist currently playing.

I'm becoming a bit of a Nuck-le head, sure. But I still root for Detroit first. That is until they get knocked out in the first round. Then I'm behind Vancouver 100%. It makes me a bit nervous thinking about it though. Vancouver is still pretty wounded from the riots last year. That was a sad day. But as long as the Sedins stay focused and give us some magic, Vancouver will take the cup.

Sedins are awesome. Its laughable when guys like Mike Milbury call them out for being heartless. They weren't the reason Vancouver lost last year.

Let's go back to last year's Finals.... Anytime your Captain (Sedin) gets repeatedly rabbit-punched in the face (Marchand), and there is no reaction from that player, or the rest of the team, you can safely refer to that team as soft. The biting, the whining and the riots. All reasons they're the most hated team by fellow NHL players. Stay classy Vancouver.

Why did they lose?

Booby Lu, most obviously. That guy doesn't have any stones, IMO. Plus probably some bad luck. Luongo gave up 21 goals in the four losses in the finals lat year. Even though the team wasn't scoring at a torrid clip, that's unacceptable.

They have no heart. The Bruins slapped them in the face and they wilted. They also bit Bergeron, don't poke the Bear. Did I mention I'm a B's fan?
b_b  ·  4653 days ago  ·  link  ·
"They" didn't bite Bergeron. Burrows, the biggest bitch currently in the NHL, bit Bergeron. I hate Burrows as much as the next guy, Luongo as well, but I like watching Van on the whole. They play pretty hockey; most teams don't. Love Kes, but I love every NHLer from Southeast Michigan.

Yes it was Burrows, not the team, but the team paid for it. Bergeron in these parts, is highly respected and admired by coaches and players alike. He's a class act off the ice, soft-spoken, hard working two-way player and one of the best defensive forwards in the game. If Burrows had bit Marchand or Campbell, they probably would have deserved it. Doing it to Bergeron really pissed off Boston, and they responded extremely aggressively. The exact opposite of how Vancouver responded to Sedin getting punched in the face five times in a row. I do love Kesler though, great player.

Anyway, a rematch isn't too hard to imagine. The B's offense is significantly better than last year, and they have tons of heavy hitters on the back end. I think it'll be them or Pitt out of the East. West is a little harder to pin down. San Jose as a potential 8 seed??? Crazy world. I think only Phoenix and LA are locks to NOT win the West. The rest is a crap shoot.

Brain fart! I got the Penguins and Pirates confused.

I'm stuck between the Penguins, Red Wings, and the Predators. I love rooting for young teams (for example the Thunder in the NBA are my second favorite team), but since I'm in the position to bandwagon and pick a for sure good team, I'm inclined to pick the Wings.

In meetings all day, secretly hubskiing under the desk. Love this thread though and would be interested to know what other teams are being rooted for. Definitely pulling for the Wings over here!
