I don't understand how anybody falls for this stuff. If it sounds too good to be true then it's too good to be true. I've had a few people try to get me in the door on things like this, in a few cases people I knew. A guy living on my street was trying to sign me up for a program that would lower all my bills by going through his company which eliminated the "middle man." I can't even talk to that guy anymore, told him he was getting scammed and scamming people in turn, he lost the tiny bit of money he had on the whole racket, screwed a few other people as well. When they are still on the hook, these people shake their heads at my folly and tell me how sorry they are that I am not taking advantage of this amazing opportunity. A few months later they have lost a bundle of money. Many of em believe that it was a personal failing that prevented them from realizing their dreams after the whole things as dried em out.

I don't know about telling your parents about this, if it can help in anyway. Anyone who would take a chance on an offer too good to be true is probably too gullible to save.

Human psychology is pretty fascinating. There are all sorts of life experiences where we apply an almost theistic faith-based belief in the way things are.
