Recently, kuli started the inaugural Hubski Book Club and I officially started the book today. I like the idea of a group of us sharing in an experience like that. We often talk about books, music and film on Hubski and I thought it might be cool to get a Hubski Film Club going too. It is less time consuming than reading a novel, therefore I think it's doable to be in both the book and film club.
My original thought is that we could work our way through the AFI Top 100 List starting with number 100 and working towards Citizen Kane. But then, there are a ton of movies in there that we've all likely seen. Still, it might be nice to revisit them and discuss?
Or... We could each take turns suggesting a film that we've not seen but have always wanted to. This might be a nice way to discover some hidden gems not on the AFI list.
What do you guys think? I'm completely open for suggestion, this could be fun.
[UPDATE] We have chosen a film, Please Link Here to See our First Film choice
Per the movie club, any suggestions on our first theme? I was thinking broad categories like, historical fiction, fantasy/sci-fi, comedy etc. Or we could go more specific: Dystopian films, World War Two films, Movies without Kevin Bacon, you know...a more narrow field to choose from. Any thoughts?
Yeah, I say we scrap the AFI idea based on the fact that it's too limiting and because most people have seen at least a 1/4 of the movies listed. I like the idea of topics or even decades instead of specific years. Any ideas on topics?
"12 Angry Men" and "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" "Citizen Kane" and "Chimes at Midnight" "Un Chien Andalou" and "Cet obscur objet du désir" "Signs of Life" and "My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?" "One or the Other of Us" and "Poseidon"
I like the idea of watching directors first work and then their most recent. The next round of Hubski Film Club, we could pick another "topic" and pick around that. If any of you would prefer a different film(s), let me know. I'm open for suggestions. Thanks JakobVirgil
I'll make a separate post regarding the choice.
I guess a monthly meeting would be best, since people got stuff to do. What does everybody think?
