I've never seen it but last year I worked with a theatre group who did it as a play. Set in a near future Europe where a far right government had reintroduced the death penalty and the accused was an iraqi immigrant. Great story!

That sounds like it could make for an interesting take on the film. How was the play? Do you act?

It was a bit strange. We don't have a jury in our court rooms (The Netherlands) and I really wouldn't want that to happen. I think a trial becomes a clash of political views in stead of an unbiased research into the facts of the matter. Our play looked a bit like the british parliament with most of the male roles played by women. As a story it was fascinating enough, but to stage a jury room discussion is a bit boring on the image side of the production. I am a theatre technician and the only visuals that I could play with were clouds passing through the sunlight that shone through the windows and a video image of the defendant in his cell, projected on the closed blinds.

It's hard to envision how this film/story could work without a jury.
You're a theatre technician? That's fascinating. I'm often impressed at what can be accomplished when I see a production. Sometimes the seemingly simple things like, "clouds passing through the sunlight" are what grip the viewer and make them feel like they are actually witnessing real events. You have a cool job.
