It's almost certainly going to be declared unconstitutional and we knew that. A big part of passing this is getting support behind a new city charter and real state level reform over the legal structures that support policing. The re election of the mayor and the loss of a progressive council woman to a guy who is more pro-bootlicking probably means we will only see piecemeal reform and are in for another 2-4 years of protests. Best hope of reform is on the state level right now. People seem pretty serious about No Justice, No Peace.
I wish I understood all the legal ins and outs of the the bill. There are so many claims and counterclaims about how the whole thing will turn out legally that all I know is semi reliable sources say it's not going to make it past the courts and that there are several ways the union might be able to tank it.
