There’s a Joe Rogan joke in here somewhere... I just. can’t. seem to put my finger on where.
LOL yeah I felt really self-conscious about putting "nitrous oxide" up on the Jumbotron at the birth center 'cuz I mean we were straight pushing whip-its on pregnant ladies and then two years later a psychotherapist moved in upstairs and now the sign says KETAMINE in letters 18" high so that's nice. What's funny is the landlord is pretty conservative and I was the one who pointed out his new favorite tenant is basically providing a Safe Space for people to do Special K under medical supervision.
I came to drugs late in life. When I was a kid, coke and weed were huge in my metalhead community. But I had no interest (or money) in such things. I was also the kid that wanted to "be different", so when everyone else started smoking in Junior High School, I specifically DIDN'T take up smoking so I would "be different". But after years and years of Burning Man, I finally tried mushrooms. Then acid. Then Ketamine. And, of course, whipits. By far, my preferred mind-altering experience is mushrooms. The experience of feeling genuinely "one" with every molecule on the planet is a deeply affecting experience. The love you feel for everything and everyone is all-encompassing. And there is no "hangover" from mushrooms, unlike liquor, ketamine, coke, MDMA, etc. And the good feelings - the opened mind set - lasts. For a week; sometimes for a lifetime. Those REALLY ANNOYING boho chic hippies spewing love and equality, and swirling around in circles dancing? Yeah. Those people feel it... and don't annoy me any more.
Christianity and its sociopolitical baggage are why this life saving research was criminalized for decades. Christianity and its sociopolitical baggage are the source of contemporary opposition to compassionate use of psychoactive substances. I will literally fight about this.
I love everything about this. We need some breakthroughs in this area. This makes so much sense to me: While conventional drugs may numb negative feelings, "these drugs seem to allow you to approach difficult experiences in your life, sit with that distress and process them,"
